Oil City, PA (9/10/2006) - Once Again,
Extreme Dirt Track racing was plagued by rain,
which forced the racing action to be extended
into Sunday, which turned out to be perfect day.
Nearly 350 racers signed up to compete this weekend
at the first ever Tri-City Speedway event in Oil
City, PA hosted by the Amateur Rep and Race Promoter
Rich Hetrick.
The first wave of rain moved in early Saturday morning,
but a heavy down pour in the late afternoon brought
the racing action to a stop for several hours, but
shortly after 7:30PM, the racing action resumed and
lasted till after midnight. With the threat of rain
lingering into Sunday, The 3 Pro Heats were run Saturday
Night. Harold Goodman recorded the fastest Heat Race
Win with Tim Farr and Keith Little also winning their
heat Races, which set the stage for Sunday’s
Pro Main.
Fortunately the rain held off, and the Pro Race went
off without a hitch shortly after 1PM with Frank Batista
grabbing the Holeshot aboard his Honda, but it wouldn’t
take long for Keith Little to move in and make the
pass and take over the lead. Little would lead the
remainder of the race and take the checkered flag
followed by Tim Farr and Harold Goodman. Mitch Reynolds
made his Pro Debut and just missed the Podium finishing
in fourth ahead of Daryl Rath. Shane Hitt was in attendance,
but he watched from the sidelines after fracturing
his C-5 Vertebrate in his neck at Dixieland Speedway,
and hopefully, he will not require surgery if everything
stays in tact after wearing a neck brace for 12 weeks.
Another racer missing in action was Darin Ogden after
he packed up and left for unknown reasons Saturday
night after the Pro Heat Race.
In the Pro Am ranks, Daryl Rath was able to out run
Mitch Reynolds in Pro Am Unlimited to take the class
win with Cody Anderson finishing in third, which was
a career best for the Minnesota rider. Chris Gary
lost some valuable points when he ran into problems
and was forced to ride off the track.
The points battle continues in Pro Am Production
with “The Bee” Goodman claiming the win
and regaining control of the points lead over Keith
Little by two points. Keith Little was leading the
race until his sway bar broke, which allowed Goodman
to make the easy pass. Little was able to maintain
the second spot with Zac Willet finishing in third.
The best news of the weekend was that the ambulance
never had to leave the track, and the Hetrick’s
did a wonderful job of promoting their first Extreme
Dirt Track race at an awesome facility.
Complete results, photos, and race report including
amateurs will be posted in the near future.
