I arrived at about 4 pm the next day. Caleb had
just finished up his runs at the 75ft gap. He was
still coming in nose heavy and it was obvious that
some adjustments needed to be made to the degree
of this comp ramp in order to rotate correctly.
Colten lined up at the super kicker to try his hand
at the flip again. On his second jump into the pit
he pulled the flip around perfect. After about 20
more flips of perfect rotations we headed back into
the house and got ready to head out to the clubs
for the night.
After a night of fun we woke up early and really
hit the pit hard. Today was the last day for Caleb
to get the flip down perfect before heading to Arizona
to perform it in a show. We added about a foot of
wood underneath the ramp to add about 4 more degrees
of pop to the ramp. This minor adjustment is just
what Caleb needed. He pulled the 75ft flip around
perfect his first time. After about 2 more jumps
he was starting to over rotate the flip if he wanted
to. Colten then practiced his rotations off the
super kicker and started playing around with some
variations to show big brother up. He then moved
over to the comp ramp to try his hand at a 75 ft
flip. After launching the quad 85ft his first jump
Colten settled back in and started attempting to
rotate. He threw out some attempts at the 75 ft
flip and almost started pulling the rotation around.
A few more days in the pit and Colten should be
able to start pulling it around. I was then able
to take my first attempt at the flip for the day.
With the sun setting I took my first rotation into
the pit. I came in a little nose heavy my first
attempt and pulled it all the way around on my second
attempt. I finally did some freestyle without getting
hurt! With the light almost completely gone Caleb
flipped the 75ft gap two more times before he loaded
up his quad and headed for Arizona to perform the
flip. Caleb successfully landed the 75ft flip to
dirt at the show, becoming the second rider on an
ATV to flip that distance.
When the two brothers return from Costa Rica this
weekend the seriousness of being able to land the
flip for a show will be gone and we will have time
to start playing around in the pit and see what
crazy stuff we can come up with. Caleb is already
getting serious about attempting an 80ft + flip
after he went pretty long on a few flips into the
pit. Be looking for another update in a few weeks
on the progression of the backflip from the Moore
brothers. It will be interesting to see what new
and innovative maneuvers the brothers will come
up with next.
