BRP Can-Am X-Teams Start GNCC ATV Title Defense

Valcourt, Canada (3/27/2007) - As title sponsor of the 2007 Grand National Cross Country Racing Series (GNCC) and defending champions of two racing classes, BRP Can AmTM teams continue to win races two rounds into the season. The opening rounds did not disappoint as the OutlanderTM line of ATVs took top spots in the competitive 4x4 Open, 4x4 Lites and 4x4 Limited classes.

“We use racing as a way of developing products,” said Bernard Guy, ATV marketing director, BRP. “However, it is more than a tool; it is also in our heritage. Racing makes our products better and helps define the future for us. We are excited to defend our championships and look forward to winning a few more this year.”

Michael Swift started the defence of his 4x4 Limited class championship in fine form as he took 4x4 Limited-class wins aboard his Warnert Racing Can-Am Outlander 800 ATV in the first three rounds. Swift dominated the field in the second and third rounds, winning by almost 10 minutes.

Scott Kilby bested the field at the second round in Georgia, as he raced his Outlander 800 ATV to the class win and placed 10th overall in the morning race session. Kilby then continued his winning ways at Steele Creek in North Carolina.

In the opening round 4x4 Lites class, Cliffton Beasley took his Warnert Racing Can-Am Outlander 500 ATV to the class win and placed 11th overall in front of 223 other racers. At the Triton GNCC, his closest competitor was a fellow Can-Am team racer, Jeremy Dudding, who was also aboard an Outlander 500 ATV; Dudding took second by almost six minutes.

In 2007, BRP is supporting two major race teams and ten racers at the national cross-country races under the Can-Am X-Team banner. They are:

Team Warnert features five racers racing in four different classes. In 4x4 Limited is 2006 champion Michael Swift (#209) from Lewisburg, Tenn. Swift races an Outlander 800 ATV. In the 4x4 Lites class is Cliffton Beasley (#237) from Chapel Hill, Tenn., he races an Outlander 500 ATV. In the new U2 class, Brock Parker (#245) campaigns a Renegade 800TM ATV; Parker is from Cherokee, N.C. The team also has two racers in the 4x4 Open class. The first is seven-time GNCC champion, Scott Kilby (#207) from Waynesville, N.C. Kilby defends his 2006 championship aboard an Outlander 800 ATV. The other is Rick Cecco (#399) from Shamokin, Pa. He, too, is riding an Outlander 800.

PBR Racing and its three racers are also getting support from BRP. Eleven-time GNCC champion Mike Penland (#221) attacks the 4x4 Limited class aboard an Outlander 800 ATV in 2007. His teammate, and son, Hoyt Penland (#260) pilots a Renegade 800 ATV in the U2 class. Also racing on the team is Jacob Kirst (#326) from Quebec. He rides an Outlander 800 ATV in the 4x4 Open class.

BRP is also offering support to privateer racer Jeremy Dudding (#345) as part of the Can-Am X Team. Dudding hails from Daniels W.V. and races in the 4x4 Limited class on an Outlander 500 ATV.

The next race in the series is the Big Buck GNCC near Union, S.C., on April 14.
