Dinli
Phases Out of Under 250cc ATV Model Production
Taipei, Taiwan (5/25/2006) - Dinli
Metal Industrial Co., a major all terrain vehicle (ATV)
maker in Taiwan, recently announced that it has phased
out production of under-250cc ATV models and would focus
on over-300cc model manufacturing.
Dinli chairman Lu Tai-yang pointed out that his company
decided to withdraw from the under-250cc ATV business
so as to escape price-cutting competition with local
and mainland Chinese rivals. The technical threshold
of under-250cc ATV products is relatively low, Lu said,
as are the profit margins.
Dinli started producing 250cc ATVs more than two years
ago and targeted the European market for sales. Up to
now, the company has shipped more than 21,000 250cc
models. To achieve higher margins, Dinli recently developed
a 300cc ATV model with decreased air pollution and higher
horsepower output. Next year, Lu claimed, Dinli plans
to push a 750cc ATV model.
Established 1988, Dinli started as a PTW engine maker
and devoted itself to ATV manufacturing in 1996. The
company globally markets its ATVs under the DINLI own-brand
and acquired American ATV brand Cannondale two years
ago for US$20 million. Dinli's aggressive move attracted
intensive attention from major ATV players in the international
market.
This year, Dinli began a series of aggressive cross-industry
investment projects into the machinery and petrochemical
fiber lines.
Dinli recently inaugurated its second ATV plant in
Taichung, central Taiwan. The new facility's monthly
capacity is about 2,500 ATVs, all of which will be exported
to Dinli's major markets in the U.S. and Europe.
