Union, SC (4/10/2009) - With a
busy three weeks for me coming to an end it was
time to go GNCC racing again! We were headed to
South Carolina for round four of the GNCC series
known as the “
Big Buck”. This track is awesome, it is very
technical for being a southern track. It features
a lot of tight woods, some off cambers, hill climbs,
and even the infamous creek jump! I made some changes
to my Yamaha YFZ450 during the weeks and I couldn’t
wait to race!
Saturday morning arrived, and the race conditions
were near perfect. The air was cool, and the track
looked to be a little damp in some spots keeping
the dust down. I went over to watch the morning
start, and it turned out to be crazy. After the
first turn there was a big hole that the utility
quads were hitting, which sent them cart wheeling
down the track. The track crew filled thew hole
after the start to prevent any more crashes.

As 1:00 approached I headed to the line. I finally
had a good start going into the woods around 7th
right behind Tyler Lenig and Bryan Cook. The first
lap we all took it somewhat easy trying to learn
the course. Cook and I kept swapping positions trying
to pass Lenig. By the end of lap one we both got
around him and we were 5th and 6th. At the start
of the second lap were were going through a dusty
field section, and I could see Cook and Adam Mcgil
right in front of me. Next thing I knew they both
split and before I could react there was a pine
tree right in front of me! I plowed into it taking
it down and launching me from the quad. (If you
want more details talk to Brandon Sommers he was
right behind me haha). I got off the ground and
realized my quad was stuck on the tree. After pushing
real hard and holding my YFZ wide open for a long
time I got off it.
After my tree collision I ended up a few positions
back sitting around 13th. I put my head down the
last two laps and passed, Johnny Gallagher, Don
Ockerman, Duane Johnson, and a few others, and by
the finish I came back to 7th.
Every race I am getting my new YFZ450 feeling better.
I will run some local races next weekend, and hope
to be ready for Loretta’s. Have a Happy Easter
and I will see you there!
