Taft, CA - (1/22/2014) - H&M Motorsports Beau Baron picked up where he left off in 2013 with  WORCS season opener Pro ATV win at Honolulu Hills.  David Haagmsa kicked off the season with the SxS 1000 class win in his new Polaris RZR XP 1000.

Beau Baron got off to a mid-pack start, and with the track heavily watered to keep down the dust, he blew through all his tear-offs in the first lap, and he started to pump up, which slowed down his charge, so he made an early pit stop for goggles and suspension adjustments.

“I got into the pits and got some fresh goggles and softened up my suspension and the ATV really started settling down and I was able to get rid of my arm pump and keep charging as hard as I could.  I was finally able to catch up to Row,” said Baron.

Baron was able to regroup after the pit stop and began his charge through the pack. He spent the next seven laps in second place chasing the leader, until he was finally able to make a move on lap nine to overtake the lead. Once in the lead, Baron charged to gap the rest of the pack. Baron finished 12.527 ahead of second place.

“I had a few issues early one, but once I got them taken care of and settled down I was able to put the H&M Motorsports Honda to work. My Maxxis Tires hooked up flawlessly and my Sparks motor pulled awesome. I am so stoked to get the first win on the season and am looking forward to another great year with my team,” said Baron.

David Haagsma didn’t have the race he wanted in the Pro ATV Class, but still managed at top five finish. Haagsma spun off the start, which sent him to the back of the pack and he only recovered to sixth place by the end of lap one. He put on a charge and moved into third for the next five laps. Haagsma then dropped to fourth for a few laps before settling into fifth on lap nine. He remained in fifth until the checkers.

“This race was on me. We did some testing before the race, and I made some adjustments that I shouldn’t have. I also ran out of tear offs pretty quick, which made vision and passing tricky. This isn’t where I want to be, and it’ll be better next round,” regarded Haagsma after the round.

Both Haagsma and Baron also raced on Saturday in the SxS events.
After winning the 2013 WORCS SxS Production 700 Championship, Haagsma moved up to the 1000 class for 2014, and it appears that the change has gone seamlessly. Haagsma ripped off the line and grabbed the holeshot in his new Polaris 2014 RZR XP 1000.

Once in the lead, Haagsma never looked back. He kept the position for all four laps and bested second place by nearly a minute.  “I lead start to finish. Everything went great, the 1000 was much smoother than my 570. I had a blast. Definitely happy to get the win,” said Haagsma.

Baron lined up in the Pro Production SxS Class with his new Polaris RZR XP 1000. Although he is the defending champion, Baron had to draw positions to start and had to start on the second row. Baron grabbed the holeshot and quickly got into a battle with another racer. Baron battled back and forth for first position until the last lap when a mechanical issue put him out of the race.

“The race was a lot of fun. RJ (Anderson) and I were swapping paint and battling hard all race. I had some awesome lines and the RZR worked great. It sucked to have an issue, but I am looking forward to next round,” regarded Baron.
The H&M Motorsports Team will be back in action in a few weeks on February 7-9th in Primm, Nevada for the second round of the 2014 WORCS series
