                                 Holz Racing / Coastal Racing's Holz & Kiger Win SxS Mint 400BITD SxS Racing - Round 2 - General Tire Mint 400 - March 21-23, 2013
Lynden, WA (3/27/2013) - 1 year later, redemption
comes to the Coastal/Holz BITD Team at the 2013 Mint 400. Every
desert team out there has the same story, we were leading, we were
going to win it, if only for that one problem. Same goes for Coastal/
Holz. In last years event, the team started from the back and by the
end of lap 1, had stretched it to a 7 minute lead. Then after a quick pit
stop they headed out and right into a catastrophic off course excursion
that ended the day and caused a miss of some of the biggest
points of the season. Fast forward to 2013. 6:00 am and 41? but the same story — start
from the back and head out into the dust on the rough, rock strewn
course outside Jean, Nevada. This time Scott Kiger would take the
first lap. Kiger suffered a flat crossing one of the huge dry lake beds
on the legendary Mint course. With a quick tire change by co-driver
Tyler King the #1934 was back underway and working toward the
front and the BF Goodrich tires performed flawlessly for the rest of
the day surving the rock strewn Mint 400 course. "This car is really
working great. The Kroyer motor pulls great. Across the lake beds
and up through the washes it just keeps pulling." said Scott Kiger.
Coming into the pits at the end of lap one, Kiger had done exactly
what he set out to do: drive a solid smart race, not tear up the car
and hand it over to Mark Holz in one piece. If there is anything can be
said about the Mint course is that it can destroy your day quick. Get
slightly off line in the dust and you could be rolling headlong into a
boulder ready to tear your front end off. Patience, perseverance and
drive is what it takes to win this beast. At main pit, Kiger pulled in for a driver/co-driver change. Mark Holz
and Rob Utendorfer climbed in and headed out for the final lap. Back
underway on course the #1934 worked it's way through other
class cars and settled into a solid pace. With the clean air in front
of them, Holz started to close the gap on the physical leader, the
#1944 Wildcat of Stephensen. After running down the Wildcat, Holz
passed it and started to put time on it. At that point it was about
driving smart and smooth. "I can't say enough good things about
this Polaris RZR XP 900. We feel really good about our setup. We
have a really well balanced car that just eats up the course. Our
Walker Evans shocks are the key to this — from deep sand whoops
to high-speed flyaways the car just works great." said Mark Holz. The #1934 kept cruising along at conservative pace and continued
to make time. Rolling across the finish line, the Coastal/Holz car finished
the two-lap, 200 mile battle in 4:40:17 almost twenty minutes
ahead of the second place finisher and with an almost 3 mph faster
average speed finishing up with a 42.8 mph average. When Holz
rolled it up on top of the box, Kiger was there waiting to hose him
down with a bottle of champagne. "We're really excited about this win. It's nice to get out here and conquer
the roughest course of the year and win this Polaris sponsored
event." said Holz from the champagne-soaked cockpit of the #1934. Next up the HRP UTV Racers will be ready to do battle for next
round of WORCS Series April 19th in Hurricane, UT, the Coastal
GNCC team will be ready for the Big Buck in Union, SC on April
20th, while Mark Holz and Scott Kiger's Coastal/Holz RZR XP will
compete at the Best in the Desert Silver State 300 on May 5th.
