Lake Elsinore, CA (6/10/2009)
- What's up everyone? I have been meaning to
get this out, but I just arrived home this week
and am still trying to get everything straightened
out. I called Jason yesterday and he and I decided
that I needed to let everyone know how I was
doing. Wow- What a busy couple of weeks. As
most of you know, I had a very bad get off at
Glen Helen two weeks ago and it has been challenging
to say the least. My last big accident was back
in 2003 ironically at Glen Helen during the
ATV 4-stroke Nationals. I had a similar accident
where I broke my femur and had a rod inserted
that day as well. To this day, the femur gives
me no problems at all and that gives me encouragement
that I can rebound from this one too.

On Sunday, May 24th I was entered in Rnd #3 of
the ITP Quadcross Championships. In the first
moto, I was jumping this big double down into
a right hand corner. I came up on Frenchman Romain
Couprie, as I was trailing Romain down to this
step down, he decided at the last minute to check
up and elect not to do the double, I veered to
the left and that’s where it went wrong.
I jumped it okay but when I landed I must have
cross rutted or something and I was just "pile
driven" into the ground. It didn't knock
me out, but I was having difficulties breathing
right away. I was immediately transported to Loma
Linda Hospital where I underwent surgery that
evening. I broke the tibula/fibula, (6) ribs and
partially punctured the lung. They inserted a
rod into my leg, and re inflated the lung and
surprisingly I am doing a lot better than expected.
I've been through injuries before and I tend to
rebound really well.
The biggest issue in my eyes is the disappointment
I feel. I always strive to do the best at my
job and this is the last thing I want is to
miss the Championship run in WORCS and defend
my title for the 3rd straight year. On the other
hand, I do have to look at it like this. I am
18 points out front, so it's obvious I will
miss Toutle, but then it falls to my favor as
I will have a full 2 months to heal up and my
goal is to make Round #6 at Straddleline, check
that, I will be at Round #6 no doubt. I tend
to heal up quick and that comes from the strong
training program I have and trying to keep my
body in tip top shape at all times. I have discussed
this with Johnny & Ty (Motowork's/Can-am
team) and we feel if all goes well I will be
good to go after summer break. Anything is possible
in this series which past years have shown in
both ATV and Bike series. Bonds was 18 points
down at this point last year in the Motorcycle
series and he finished on top.
My wife Tiffany and kids Madalynn & Gavyn
are my biggest fans along with the rest of my
family and close friends. They have been a huge
support at this time. I just want to thank them
and all my sponsors, fans, and fellow Racers
for all their support throughout my racing career.
I will get through this. I believe in my team,
my program and most of all, myself. I look forward
to seeing you all at the races after Summer
break and I promise to give everyone a great
run for the Championship when that time comes
in August.
