The
Big Apple Gets a Taste of Nasmoto SuperMoto
Action
The NASMOTO Circus Stops on the
East Coast for a Memorial Day Race
Santa Monica, CA (6/1/2007) - Nasmoto
pinned the throttle back on May 27th for the second
round of the NASMOTO SuperMoto Grand Prix at the Cycle
Performance Presents NASMOTO New York GP located in
Cuddebackville, New York at the Oakland Valley Race
Park (OVRP).
Just 30 minutes outside New York City, the Memorial
Day race began with overcast skies and severe thunderstorms
on the horizon. In the qualifying rounds of the combined
Pro-Am and amateur SMX 250 / SM2 class Cycle Performance's
own Chris Fisher stood at the top of the time charts.
After the thunderstorms came he decided to sit out the
race due to rehabbing an elbow.
Filling the vacuum left by Fisher was pro Paul Allison
on his 250cc Kawasaki. He rode an outstanding race on
the slick tarmac and brought his race bike home on point
in the SMX 250 / SM2 class.
"The Cycle Performance Presents NASMOTO New York
GP brought out the talent from the New York area,"
said Ted Baker, Vice President of NASMOTO. "Even
though the rain came, the action was fast, furious and
fun. The talent is deep and getting better in the North
East," he said.
The dirt section, designed by AMA Hall of Fame member
Doug Henry, was closed before the race due to the afternoon
storms. The rain converted the table tops, banked turns
and whoops into a slick soup that became torturous as
the day wore on.
The action-packed event never slowed on the 14 turn
half-mile asphalt track as the racers worked their wet
set-up. One of the best races of the day was in the
novice class with five riders in contention for the
win until the last turn with Nicholas Canny taking the
honors by a wheel.
Another standout was 12 year old Emerson Connor from
Burlington, Ontario. He took second in SMX 250 / SM2
and fourth in Open Amateur. "Connor has stepped
up the pace and his race craft is sound," said
Baker. "He is a rising star of NASMOTO and will
be a force in the sport for years to come."
The Amateur ATV class fielded many riders new to the
sport who were enthusiastic and over-riding their machines.
Ted Baker conducted two rider meetings to ensure safety
and settle race day butterflies. Young John Odendahl
took a well deserved first place on his Yamaha and shined
in a class of enthusiastic ATV racers.
