2007 Maxxis NEATV-MX Race Report - Round 8
Team Green’s Josh Creamer Takes the ATV Overall Win
Capeway Rovers Motocross

Middleboro, MA (8/8/2007) - For most of the races this season the weather has smiled on NEATV and Sunday was no exception. With a slight breeze and temps in the 80’s the Open Pro contenders prepared for Round 8 at Capeway Rovers M/C. Coming into this round the Baldwin Motorsports #111 of Nate Morello trailed Yamaha’s #91 Jasmin Plante by 5 points. With Plante not in attendance, Morello was looking at retaking that #1 overall spot. Kawasaki rider Josh Creamer #9 would be racing as there were no National race conflicts. The race for 3rd place overall would be the one to watch as 2006 Champion BCS/K&K sponsored #82 Matt Pomeroy would be battling Gabriel Racing’s #21 of Tommy Mofford and only have a slight 4 point lead.

The holeshot in the first moto went to Nate Morello followed by Hell Bent Cycle’s #748 Mike Pilotte and Josh Creamer. The first race back for Walsh/Nacs/BCS rider #97 Tony Botticello would have a rough start as he tangled with the #11 of Jake Hakala. Creamer was able to make the pass on Pilotte over the double and start tracking Morello. Behind Pilotte were Matt Pomeroy, Nac’s rider #621 Danny Lewis, #26 Vinny Mofford, #47 BCS/Muffs sponsored Justin ‘Muff’ Hoffler, and Tommy Mofford. Hakala had caught the end of the pack however would become stuck in a berm and lose time. Morello and Creamer started to pull away from the pack by the third lap.

Vinny Mofford began making some moves and got up to the 3rd place spot with the next six positions in tight contention and were looking for any line around. Creamer worked his way past Morello on the flag jump, but Morello wouldn’t let Creamer out of his sights as he hounded the Kawi rider and the two began to really put some good time between them and 3rd place; at one point the gap was up to 25 seconds. Pomeroy passed Pilotte in a corner and Hoffler got around him at the score booth. Then the race was on between Pomeroy and Hoffler as they began passing each other back and forth and really putting on a good show for the crowd. At the checkers it was Creamer out front with Morello in 2nd. Mofford was set in 3rd and Pomeroy in 4th, unfortunately Hoffler would be caught in a berm and slip back to 8th. Pilotte would hold off Tommy Mofford for 5th.

Vinny Mofford would command the holeshot in moto 2 with Mike Pilotte, Jake Hakala, Tony Botticello and Danny Lewis in pursuit. Nate Morello had a nasty crash at the start, and Matt Pomeroy would get hung up on a berm. Josh Creamer, #240 Pat Camacho and Tommy Mofford would get tangled together in the corner after the big double and would take awhile to get the three riders apart.

Hakala passed Pilotte and then Vinny Mofford to take the lead. Danny Lewis would take the 3rd place position over the spectator tabletop followed by Justin Hoffler, pushing Pilotte back to 5th. Lewis got hung up which allowed Pillote, Botticello, and #101 Columbia Motosport’s Danny Shea to get around. Matt Pomeroy was pushing hard to catch up to the leaders and was looking ultra smooth on the beat-up track. Following Pomeroy was a frustrated Creamer who was doing everything in his power to make up time and positions. The Halo/BCS rider #40 Dave Payne was riding really well considering that when I see him around the track he can barely walk, he would move over for the leaders and make his way around the track to collect points to stay in the top 10.

With the amount of Pro racers not on the lead lap it was getting exceedingly difficult to determine who was where. Hakala would continue to lead the rest of the race and take the checkers, followed by Justin ‘Muff’ Hoffler and Mike Pilotte. Josh Creamer would make his way up to the 4th place position which would give him the overall. Matt Pomeroy would extend his lead on Tommy Mofford to 10 points and Nate Morello would end up 9th, but would accrue enough points to become the new series leader.

Round 9 will be held August 26th at MX207 in Lyman, Maine. Visit www.neatv-mx.com for more information.
