Richard Pelchat attacking a turn |
Delmont, PA (9/1/2007) - Yamaha
motor Canada’s Richard Pelchat finished
7th at the inaugural AMA Pro ATV Open Invitational
against a stacked field of competitor. Held during
Round 10 of the AMA/Toyota Motocross Championships
at the Steel City race track, the race was a one
moto format with 20 invited Pro ATV riders.
Right after the track walk, Richard was excited
as the track layout featured some technical
jumps which fit hand in hand with is riding
style: “ finally a challenging track’’
was his first comments. Quick to prove his point,
Richard made good use of the 20 minute practice
to register the 2nd fastest lap time: “I
rode smooth and made sure I had the track dialled
in”
At the gate draw, Richard picked gate number
19… “Write this down, my mechanic
is going to pick for me next time” laughed
Richard.

As the gate dropped for the main events, Richard
uses a few smart moves to put himself in the
top ten. “My first two laps were not really
good, I was playing it too safe…at one
point I said OK this is enough, lets ride for
real”. Unfortunately for Richard right
before the halfway point his motor overheated
due a clogged radiator and heat inducing sawdust.
The motor was boiling and was loosing horsepower
but the Yamaha never missed a beat and brought
Richard to the finish line for 7th.
“I’m happy but not satisfied, deep
down I wanted Top 5…” commented
Richard. “I want to thank Yamaha Motor
Canada for all the support but also Yamaha Motor
USA for inviting me at this race. It was a huge
honour for me.’’
