Primm, NV (3/5/2007) -In just three
years, Marche Karger has built the Stateline Supermoto
Challenge into the largest supermoto race in North America.
With well over 450 pre-entries already in from supermoto,
Quad and UTV racers, the event has established itself
as the first opportunity each year to experience not
just quantity, but also quality in supermoto racing
action.
Quality indeed! How about names like Henry, Burkhart,
Ward, Currie, Fillmore, Dymond, Carlson, Nicoll, Atkins,
and Herfoss ... all of whom have already committed
to tackle this year's track at Buffalo Bill's Resort
& Casino in Primm, just a big air east of the
California/Nevada border.
With all the challenges of staging such an event,
how has Karger grown this one so quickly?
"I just want to put on a bitchen race,"
he says modestly. "That's the bottom line."
And that's what happens when a guy who's a racer
himself is overseeing the track design and making
sure the rider experience is top-of-the-line in every
aspect from the accommodations to a great after race
party. Just look at Troy Lee's "Duel at the Docks"
at the Queen Mary last November for further evidence.
"Troy's event was so awesome," notes Karger.
"It really inspired me to kick the Stateline
Challenge up a notch and keep the momentum of great
supermoto racing going in 2007."
To that end, Karger adds some innovative twists
to each year's track. He plans to bring back "Gravity
Gulch", where riders drop down into a gaping
hole seven feet below track level and roost off a
lip 15-feet above it. And to please both racers and
fans, look for at least one split in the dirt section
to provide a golden passing opportunity.
"I've got this huge blank canvas to work with
at Buffalo Bill's," says Karger. "It's a
fantastic venue, not just because I can get so creative
with the track design, but also because it's a cool
place to stay for race weekend. The Buffalo Bill's
people are great hosts. And the weather is just right
for racing (and spectating) here in April."
Another aspect that makes the Stateline Challenge
so popular is the Quad and UTV racing, so much so
that Karger may end up giving those racers their own
weekend at some point in the future. Quad standouts
like Nic Granlund and Daryl Rath are on board for
this April 13-15, with dozens more on their way to
the grid.
How about one final claim to fame for Karger's Stateline
Challenge: every single factory pro team will be participating,
as well as other perennially competitive teams like
Carey Hart's Hart & Huntington Team, the 3 Brothers
Race Team, Mach 1 Motorsports, and Red Baron Racing.
On the heels of Troy Lee's widely praised season
finale, it seems appropriate to kick off the 2007
season with a bang. And with over 500 racers lining
up April 13-15 in Primm, representing each and every
OEM, the Stateline Supermoto Challenge is the biggest
bang there is.
