Brea, CA (7/31/2009) -American
Suzuki Motor Corp. (ASMC) is proud to announce
that the Suzuki motorcycle and ATV race teams
continue to dominate their respective disciplines.
As the end of the racing season draws near,
Suzuki motorcycles and ATVs have taken the
lead in the overall championship points standings
in U.S. Road Racing, Motocross, the GNCC and
AMA ATV Motocross racing.
In the two ATV racing series, the powerful
and smooth-running Rockstar Makita Suzuki
QuadRacer R450s, like their two-wheeled counterparts,
lead the way. In the AMA ATV Motocross Championship,
defending champion Dustin Wimmer is at the
top of the series standings after picking
up five victories this year. Similarly, in
the GNCC XC1 Pro ATV class, Chris Borich has
racked up six wins and commands the title
chase.
In AMA Motocross, Chad Reed rules the premier
class on his fuel-injected Rockstar Makita
Suzuki RMZ450. The two-time AMA Supercross
Champion Reed leads the 450 class points chase
and has been the picture of consistency this
year with eight out of 10 podium finishes
– three of which were overall wins.
In the 250 class, Rockstar Makita Suzuki teammate
Ryan Dungey recently picked up another victory
and is now tied for the overall championship
lead. This year, Dungey and the agile-handling
RM-Z50 have won four races and been on the
podium a total of six times. As if the Suzuki
RM-Z450’s performance wasn’t impressive
enough, in the GNCC, off-road racers Joshua
Strang and Charles Mullins have raced their
FMF Makita Suzuki RM-Z450s to second- and
third-places overall, respectively, and have
five 2009 victories between them.
In road racing, the awesome power of the
Suzuki GSX-R leads the way. Six-time AMA Superbike
Champion Mat Mladin and the Rockstar Makita
Suzuki GSX-R1000 hold sway in the AMA Superbike
class by more than 100 points. So far this
year, the formidable duo of Mladin and his
GSX-R1000 have celebrated 10 victories and
seven out of eight pole positions. In the
AMA Daytona SportBike class, M4 Suzuki’s
Martin Cardenas has piloted the GSX-R600 to
the top of the charts. Cardenas and the precisehandling
M4 Suzuki GSX-R600 are in control of the title
chase, after having won six races this year.
Suzuki’s race team action continues
this weekend with the Rockstar Makita Suzuki
road race team at Heartland Park Topeka in
Topeka, Kansas, and the Rockstar Makita Suzuki
AMA ATV MX team at Red Bud Track ‘N’
Trail in Buchanan, Michigan. The Rockstar
Makita Suzuki Motocross team has a short break
before their next round at Unadilla Sports
Center in New Berlin, New York, in August
and both GNCC squads are on summer break until
September.
