Shelbyville, TN (8/22/2014) - Vegas to Reno, the longest off road race in the United States, took place on Friday, August 15th. The 534 mile event started just outside Vegas, Nevada and crossed the desert’s vast terrain to end just outside of Reno. Team UXC/Driven Powersports/Polaris Factory Racing’s team consisting of Michael Swift, Don Higbee, and Chris Robinson came into this round sitting second place in the points.

Michael Swift started the Team UXC Team just after 6 AM. By Pit 3, Swift moved their Polaris Scrambler XP 1000 into second place

With a third place starting position in the Quad Expert Class, UXC’s Michael Swift left the starting line at 6:19 a.m. Onboard the #440 Polaris Scrambler 1000 a pass was made by Swift just before Pit 3 to claim the second place position. As the sun rose, Swift continued the race battling the dust all the way to Pit 4. The #440 machine closed the gap to a mere 40 seconds of the 1st place team.

Teammate Chris Robinson climbed aboard the Polaris Scrambler 1000 at Pit 4 with plans to carry the #440 to Pit 8. An unfortunate left rear flat by pit 7 set the team back to 3rd place. After changing the tire and refueling the quad, Swift took over once again. “I had a great ride at the Vegas to Reno on the Scrambler taking it from Pit 4 to Pit 8. The bike felt great and the Custom Axis Shocks worked really well over the wide variety of rough terrain, stated Robinson.

Despite having a flat tire, the team ran a flawless race to finish second in the Quad Expert Class which was enough for them to take over the points lead

At Pit 12, Driven Powersport’s Don Higbee tackled some of the most difficult sections of the course and continued to gain on the other teams. Just twenty miles outside Pit 14, Higbee encountered a problem with a rear tire. “We had a good consistent run over the 534 miles. Our race team, along with Chris Ralph chasing for us, was the perfect combination for a solid finish,” commented Higbee.

At Pit 14, Team UXC’s chase crew quickly prepared the Scrambler 1000 to return at full racing capacity with a tire and air filter change. Swift picked back up at Pit 14 and carried the team to the finish line in Reno. After 12 hours and 534 miles of desert racing, Swift made a pass for 2nd place just 35 miles from the finish line.

“The Polaris Scrambler 1000 performed extremely well today in combination with our team sponsors' products. We could not have asked for a more spectacular ride. Our team worked well together and we accomplished our goal at the end of the day,” said Swift.

The second place finish puts Team UXC in 1st place for points going into the final race of the BITD series to be held in Henderson, Nevada later this year.
