Inaugural PowerSports
ATV Championship Tour
White Bear Lake, MN (4/18/2006)
- Welcome to the inaugural PowerSports
ATV Championship Tour season! The PowerSports
ATV Championship Tour is North America’s
premier professional ATV racing series. Operated
by PowerSports Entertainment, Inc., the Tour
is sanctioned by the World PowerSports Association,
North America’s largest and most respected
powersports sanctioning body, and promoter of
ATV and snowmobile racing on both the regional
and national level. WPSA also sanctions the
ATV Tour’s sister series: the PowerSports
Snowmobile Championship Tour.
The ATV Championship Tour will host 10 events this
season at seven venues. All 10 races will be telecast
on ESPN2 in midday, one-hour, weekend timeslots. The
television schedule represents a first for ATV racing,
and follows a successful run of Snowmobile Championship
Tour television events. Television shows begin airing
on June 3 and will run through Sept. 10.
The ATV Tour will operate two racing series at each
venue this season: the “QuadMX Series”
and the “QuadTerrain Challenge Series.”
QuadMX will consist of professional and pro-am sport
MX racing on pro-style, big-air MX racing circuits.
The QuadTerrain Challenge comprises professional and
pro-am sport utility racing on purpose-built all-terrain
racing circuits. ATVs allowed to compete will include
stock, near-stock utility-type, and modified.
Track layouts will be designed to optimize television
coverage and fan viewing for both racing disciplines.
The QuadMX course is central to the design and is
tailored exclusively for ATV racing. The QuadTerrain
course is constructed immediately adjacent to the
MX track incorporates a small portion of the technical
section of the MX course, but excludes all big air
MX sections. The balance of the QuadTerrain course
consists specialized terrain and obstacles. All obstacle
sectors are raced at speed. Races feature obstacles
that demonstrate the machine’s and a rider’s
capabilities under race conditions. However certain
sections will require careful maneuvering, or a deft
high-speed touch. The QuadTerrain courses are a half
mile or less in length.
In order to allow competition from amateur and junior
classes, without taking away from the professional
show, the courses include amateur alternative lines
for each Series.
Sponsorship will contribute to the growth of the
Tour, both on the series and team side. The factories
have recognized the importance of racing as part of
their overall marketing program. Participation from
Polaris, Ski-Doo and Arctic Cat in the QuadTerrain
Challenge is expected this season, while other manufacturers,
including Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha and others are planning
to take part in QuadMX. Air Force, AMSOIL, Parts Unlimited
and many others also plan to participate in the Tour.
The Series will also support unique programs designed
to help teams secure sponsorship and to allow them
to grow with the Tour.
Fans play an integral role in the Tour’s success
and goals are in place to continue to grow the ATV
fan base, while expanding into new territory. The
Tour will showcase not only spectacular racing, but
also offer a host of additional entertainment opportunities
at venues, through television broadcasts, and via
the Internet. Venues will be constructed to be “fan
friendly” and will host a wide range of activities
for the entire family.
Last season, more than 300,000 fans attended WPSA
events and upwards of 3,000 competitors participated
at regional or national levels. These numbers are
expected to grow as the WPSA grows with the addition
of ATV racing.
ATV racing is a family-oriented activity and the
Tour will present family-friendly entertainment that
appeals to all ages. Autograph sessions and paddock
access will continue to allow fans up-close interaction
with the riders, teams and their high-powered machines.
During the season, the Tour will also offer new entertainment
opportunities for fans to demo new ATVs, shop new
vendors, play immersive games, participate in VIP
viewing programs and be able to take test rides at
select venues.
WPSA and the PowerSports ATV Championship Tour are
built on a solid foundation. With a new vision, renewed
commitment, and dedication to further developing our
sport, the future is bright. Welcome to the 2005-2006
WPSA PowerSports ATV Tour. Let the racing begin!
