White Bear Lake, MN (1/26/2007)
- The WPSA PowerSports ATV Tour released
its 2007 rulebook today at www.PowerSportsTour.com
The most notable addition to the rules is the addition
of several new transponder classes. Transponders will
be required in the following classes: SuperQuad Pro
450, SuperQuad Pro Am, A Class, Women A, Production
Lites, 0-50cc Production auto clutch 6-8, 90cc Production
CVT belt drive 8-15 yrs, Pro Stock QTC, Stock Lites
QTC, Stock Unlimited QTC, Modified QTC, and Pro Super
Sport. A limited number of transponders will be available
for purchase or rental through WPSA.
"The use of transponders will allow us to continue
to promote our unique and exciting ladder system,"
said PowerSports ATV Tour Director Tes Sewell. "Transponders
allow us to feature more classes in our live timing
and scoring feed on the web, and will also allow our
television production team more access to the Pro-Am,
Amateur and Junior classes. Additionally, lap times
and other pertinent information will be posted on
the web for team usage.
"We hope to further expand this program is subsequent
years to include all of our classes," concluded
Sewell.
Several changes also affect the QuadTerrain Challenge
Pro Stock class. In the QuadTerrain Stock classes,
the following equipment may be changed or added: Tires,
wheels, handlebars, throttle assembly, grips, handguards,
seat covers, nerf bars, bumpers, foot pegs (foot pegs
must not protrude beyond the running boards or nerf
bars), steering dampers, exhaust with spark arrestor,
clutch plates and springs, aftermarket air filters,
tie rods and tie rod ends, shocks and springs shocks
must not have a reservoir and must maintain the original
shock length measured from eye hole to eye hole),
and skid plates that are commercially available.
"We received quite a bit of feedback from our
racers and teams during the 2006 season, and these
rule changes are in response to that," said PowerSports
ATV Tour Race Director Blair Bodley. "The goal
with these new rules is to allow equipment to last
longer, while still showcasing one of the most exciting
ATV racing shows in North America."
The new SuperSport UTV class rules will be issued
soon as part of the Tour's supplementary regulations.
