Am Pro Yamaha's Walker Fowler rounded out the GNCC XC1 Pro ATV Podium Class at Big Buck

Union, SC (4/23/2013) - Yamaha YFZ ATV and YZ motorcycle racers earned five podium finishes in the fourth round of the 2013 GNCC off-road series in Union, SC on April 20-21.
In ATV racing on Saturday, Kara Merritt, Am Pro Yamaha’s Walker Fowler and Patrick McGuire all finished third in their respective Women’s, XC1 Pro and XC2 Pro Am classes aboard their YFZ450Rs. Then in Sunday’s motorcycle action, Jessica Patterson added another third in the Women’s race and Aaron Plessinger grabbed a final podium in XC2 Pro Lites aboard his YZ250F. The 13- round GNCC series next heads to Park City, Ky. on May 4-5.

Conditions at the annual “Big Buck” event were typical of GNCC races – long and tough, with a wide range of terrain. As usual, the Saturday morning Women’s ATV event mixed it up with 19 other classes over five grueling laps. Merritt put her YFZ into the class lead on the first lap, forging a narrow advantage over rival Kylie Ahart. The tables turned on Merritt on lap two though, as Ahart snuck by and starting building up a gap. Merritt held onto second for nearly two hours, but on the final lap a battle with rival Quincy Cunningham left Merritt in third.
A fast starter, Fowler likewise led the first lap of the afternoon XC1 Pro event before dropping to fourth on the third of five laps. But the contest was closer than it seems, for Fowler, leader Chris Bithell, Chris Borich and Adam McGill were all within seconds of each other. Fowler re-passed McGill for a podium position on the fourth lap and went into the final lap poised to attack – but he couldn’t catch his rivals, and settled for his third podium of the year. In the XC2 Pro Am contest, McGuire led the field until the last lap, ultimately finishing third behind Brycen Neal and Landon Wolfe.
