Suzuki’s Dustin Wimmer made it look easy as
he rode away with his second win in the 2009 AMA
ATV Motocross Championship series, while American
Honda’s Joe Byrd claimed a respectable second
overall, but it was Honda/Baldwin Motorsports’
Josh Upperman that stole the show with his strong
charge that earned him his first appearance on the
                              National Pro podium.

Creek Raceway - ATV Motocross Track | It was a perfect day for racing at Mill Creek
with good track conditions and beautiful weather,
but even the near perfect conditions, and racing
at his home track, was not enough to bring luck
Keith Little’s way. The ATVA implemented its new format and some
rule changes for the upcoming year at this round.
With the tight schedule and minimal time on hand,
racers and their crews are finding it tough to
fix any issues their machines might have in between
qualifying rounds, which was what happened to
Little. During his qualifier, Little encountered
what he thought was an issue with his CDI box.
Little replaced it and went out to try and qualify,
but the issue persisted. By the time Little was
able to track down the problem, which turned out
to be a faulty thermostat, it was too late and
Little was forced to watch all the action from
the sidelines, much to his dismay and that of
                                his hometown fans.

Keith Little grabbed the Pro LCQ Holeshot
& held the lead for 2 laps, till he
was sidelined and out of the Pro Main | Kawasaki's
Russell Shumaker was able to make the pass
on Trent Kandel to secure the final transfer
spot behind Cale Downen | Little was not the only one to have a bad day.
                                Kawasaki’s Josh Creamer, Can-Am’s
Cody Miller and Jeremie Warnia, and Cale Downen
were all involved in a huge crash shortly after
the start that also slowed up several riders who
were stuck behind. “There were quads flying
everywhere, bodies flying everywhere. I don’t
know how I avoided it,” said Can-Am Motoworks’
Brandon Smith who considered himself fortunate
to not be a part of the carnage.

DeNoble grabbed the Moto One Holeshot while
havoc broke out behind him with Cody Miller
& Josh Creamer colliding, which sent
Miller flying into the front of Doug Gust
& subsequently he got ran over before
Gust could come to a stop. Meanwhile, Cale
Downen was pushed outside & crashed
into the fence. Fortunately, everyone was
able get back up from the terrifying wreck
and continue the race with just some scraps
& bruises | Josh Creamer was pretty banged up from the incident,
but continued to race to salvage points as did
Cody Miller, who was inadvertently used as traction
by Suzuki’s Doug Gust. “I felt really
bad about running him over so I’m glad he
is okay,” said Gust. “In the first corner, I ran into Josh and
caught his tire and I just went up and over and
Josh went down as well. It was a tough crash and
I was pretty sore after that, but I kept going,”
said Miller who is hoping for a better go of things
                                at round three.
Lady Luck was shining down on Suzuki’s
number one man, Dustin Wimmer. The defending champ
proved once again that he is well worthy of running
the number one plate. In moto number one, Dustin
was third off the gate, but made quick work of
rookie pro Nick De Noble, who grabbed the holeshot,
and began his pursuit of Josh Upperman, who had
taken over the lead. Before the end of the second
lap, Dustin took over the lead and checked out.
Dustin went on to claim a ten second lead at the
checkered flag. Moto number two was pretty much
a repeat for Wimmer as he took the lead from Upperman
once again in the second lap. As soon as he took
the lead, Wimmer began to put an impressive gap
between himself and the rest of the pack, and
again finished with over a ten second lead. Dustin’s
1-1 finish earned him the overall and has put
him 11 points ahead of Joe Byrd, who is currently
                                second in the points race.

points over Joe Byrd | “My bike is dialed in and running perfectly.
I just went out there and tried to ride smart

this definitely has me motivated,” stated

                                his championship this season. |
