Chad Wienen Takes Sunset

Maxxis/Yamaha/Moto-Xpert’s Thomas Brown would
claim second overall at Sunset Ridge. A solid
ride during the first moto secured Brown a third
place position, fending off Root River Racing’s
Josh Upperman. “I didn’t get the best start, but
I fought through the pack to finish third. Joel
and Chad had a blistering pace.” said Brown.

In Moto two, Brown shot out of the gate to claim
the SSI Decals holeshot award and never looked
back, taking an uncontested moto win, which boosted
him into second overall on the weekend, which
now just has him 26 points behind Wienen in the
championship race and still in the hunt.

Hetrick grabbed the Moto two holeshot, but found
himself in an intense battle for the win with
Wienen. Hetrick would claim the fastest lap of
the first moto with a time of 1:46.71, closely
matched by Wienen’s best of 1:46.97. Hetrick would
finish the moto in the second spot.

For Moto two, Hetrick battled through mud and
challenging track conditions to a third place
finish after rounding the first lap in fifth.
Hetrick would however turn the fastest lap of
moto two as well, with a 1:55.59. According to
Hetrick, “After the track was run in about ten
minutes into the moto, it was a lot better for
me. I caught up a little bit, but I just started
too far behind.”

Qualifer Award for the sixth time, which
wrapped up the $1,000 points championship

Adding to Hetrick’s well-deserved third place
overall was wrapping the battle for the $1,000
ATVriders.com fastest qualifier award. Sunset
Ridge was Hetrick’s sixth timed qualifier win
of the series, which sealed the deal for Hetrick.
H&M Motorsports’ David Haagsma rode his Honda
to an impressive fourth place overall finish by
going 5-4 in only his second race of the season.

Rounding out the top five was JB Racing/ Liquid
Wrench’s Jeffery Rastrelli who ended with impressive
7-5 moto finishes after an unexpected crash at
Ironman Raceway in Indiana, which left him with
a shoulder injury. Rastrelli is looking to get
back to 100 percent by the next round.

National Series heads too Spring Creek MX in Millville,
MN on June 27-28th.
