Nationals Pro ATV Race Report - Moto Two
::Continued::

Heavy
Rain fell just before the start of the 2nd
Moto, which turned the track into soup |
Fortunately, the race stopped just before the start
of the second moto, but the heavy rain had left
its mark, and the second moto would be a mud fest.
Thick, slick mud was abundant as racers desperately
tried to get traction once the gate dropped. “I
just spun off the line,” said Sage Baker who
was toward the middle off the gate. Surprisingly,
it was Doug Gust who grabbed the holeshot, followed
by Jasmine Plante, Rocco Arno, and John Natalie.
First moto winner, Dustin Wimmer ended up with 14th
off the line, which would ultimately have a huge
impact on his finish.

Cody
Miller, Chad Wienen, Jason Dunkelberger,
Jeremy Lawson, and Harold Goodman were all
sidelined after only a few laps in the second
Moto |
Cody Miller, who had a strong showing in the
first moto didn’t even make it off the line
“I don’t know what happened. My bike
just quit before the gate dropped,” he said
disappointedly. Cody was unable to get it running
again and had to take a DNS for moto two.
Shortly into the first moto, Dunkelburger once
again had a catastrophic failure when his main
bearing went out just as it had in the first moto,
which left him sidelined. “I had some bad
luck and I’m trying to forget about it,”
he said. “I’m really disappointed,
especially after getting a top five finish in
Alabama a couple weeks ago.” Dunk says he
is looking forward to the next round, as he is
certain the issue with his motor is a thing of
the past.

Jasmin
Plante held onto to the third spot after
being passed by John Natalie jrd |
Suzuki's
Doug Gust extended his lead out to over
nine seconds by the 5th lap of the race |
Privateer Canadian racer Jasmine Plante had a
fantastic run in the 2nd moto. Jasmine came off
the line in second and held his position for most
of the race until Natalie decided to make a charge
for the front. Natalie went for the pass and got
around Plante and soon had his sights set on Gust.

Kawasaki's
Josh Creamer was charging hard through the
mud even without goggles |
Meanwhile, Josh Creamer, who had taken 7th in
the holeshot and maintained his position for most
of the race. “It was a mess out there, but
I was able to hold my position until towards the
end when my wheel bearings went out,” said
Josh. Pat Brown was then able to get around Creamer.
“If I wouldn’t have had that failure,
I wouldn’t have been passed,” Josh
said confidently. Creamer finished the race in
8th place, which according to the AMA’s
old scoring system would have put him on the podium
in 3rd place overall, but with the new scoring
method, Creamer was one point away from making
the podium. “It’s kind of disappointing
because I was only one point from 3rd place and
two points away from 2nd,” he concluded.
