2015 Daytona ATV Supercross
Pro Race Report
::Continued::
Joel Hetrick had a good start and was right behind
Jeffrey Rastrelli. Hetrick pushed hard and stayed
close, waiting for an opportunity to get by. Hetrick
only had to wait until lap seven when he inherited
second place. Once there, Hetrick closed in on
Natalie and went for a pass, but was shut out.
Hetrick stayed close but never had another opportunity
and had to contend with Chad Wienen, who was closing
in, and settled for a second place finish.

“The track was pretty rough, but it was a good
race and I am stoked to have the opportunity to
be here. I put in solid laps, but Chad was right
behind me pushing me all the way. I got close
to Natalie, but it didn’t happen. We have a new
program this year and it has been going really
well, and I am just really happy to be up on the
box,” said Hetrick.

Yamaha/Wienen Motorsports’ Chad Wienen, who had
issues in his heat race and had to go to the LCQ,
was on a mission. Wienen was in fourth off the
start and stayed close behind Joel Hetrick, who
was just ahead of him. Wienen closed in on lap
ten and went for a pass but was unable to make
it happen and claimed the final spot on the Daytona
Pro podium. “I made it hard for myself early on,
but I made it to the main. It’s just one of those
tracks where you have to be on point for the whole
time. My team and crew did a great job out there
and Yamaha and Maxxis have been behind me the
whole time so I really have to thank all of them.
I am going to just stay focused now and get ready
for Georgia,” said Wienen.

Veteran racer, Dasa Racing’s Joe Byrd, who did
well in qualifiers and finished second behind
Joel Hetrick, was in the number seven spot off
the start. Byrd eventually found himself in fourth
place at the midway point and held his position
all the way to the checkered flag, which is a
huge step up from the last couple of years for
the former champion. “We are still trying to get
our stuff together so a top five finish is good.
Most people don’t know about it but I had Epstein-Barr
the last couple of years and it is a terrible
illness to get over. I was released in December,
so I’m feeling good now, and I just have to get
in some seat time. I’m just really happy to be
here and have a good time. This is a really cool
event and is one of the best things that has happened
to us recently and is a step in the right direction,”
said Byrd.
