Before I get to the racing news I’d like to
share a very touching story with you. Dennis Wilson, who
is one of our most dedicated racers in ATVCCS suffered
a tragic loss during the summer break. His wife Teresa
passed away just a few weeks after being diagnosed with
cancer. Soon after, this news spread through the network
of racers, family members, and regular spectators that
all make up the “ATVCCS Family”, action was
taken by Mike Rogers and David Cozart. Since they were
hosting this event Mike and David put together a 2 up
race on Saturday and a poker run Saturday night, with
all the proceeds donated to Dennis. This was being offered
to help cover his expenses, while he was off work by his
wife’s side. It was a tearjerker of a riders meeting
when Mike made the announcement, and Dennis presented
the awards to the winners of the 2 Up race. God Speed
Teresa. I can’t tell you how proud this made Gayle
and I to see these groups of people pulls together to
comfort a fellow racer.
Lets go racing; the track was 8.0 miles long and had
some cool rocky sections mixed in with lots of turns
and a few creek crossing. The PeeWee track was just
less than 2 miles long. As the PeeWee race started it
was hot and dusty. Wesley Pruitt jumped out the early
lead in the 6 under class followed by Gage Smith and
Terry Bohanon. Smith made a pass on the second lap and
took over the lead. Bohanon was the rider on the move
though, he moved pass Smith and took the lead on the
forth lap and held on to win the race. Pruitt came back
to finish second followed by Smith in third. Next race
was the 8 under class and Austin Medley took his new
machine out to the early lead and held on to win by
large margin over Broc Watkins who finished second.
Third went to Kaden Walters followed by Braeden Hardin,
and Braden Mize. The final PeeWee race was the 10 under
class. Hometown favorite Halston Munoz got the holeshot
and led the race until the second lap when rolled his
machine on an off-camber turn. Austin Medley who decided
to double up and race two classes took over the lead-followed
closely by Nathan Clague. After a couple more laps Clague
took over first place and went on to win the race.
Mike Rogers told me he wanted to have the race in
August because it never rains in Cisco in August. Well
Mike your wrong. As the last PeeWee race was ending
the wind shifted and rain began to fall. Looks like
the C Program was going to have to race in the rain.
In the Lady Open class Lexie Coulter won but the racing
action for second was a spectators delight. Heather
Best and Porscha Knowlton were going at it making several
passes on one another for the entire race. In fact their
lap times for the last lap was faster than the class
winner. Knowlton finished second and Best third. Crystal
Perry and Candice Lively rounded out the podium. Dennis
Wilson continued his winning ways in the 50+ class followed
by David Maholick, Mike Nolan and Joe Hill. Dorothy
Rogers took the win in the Lady 30+ class but she didn’t
have much to spare at the finish as Amy Lee was right
on her back bumper at the checkered flag. The last race
on Saturday was the Youth Beginner class. Lacey Tincher
has returned to the form she had at the beginning of
the season and took another victory. Jarod Roberts took
second and Travis Brown third.
The fast guy on Sunday was Austin Aldridge in the
Open class. He took the early lead and appeared to be
making up time on the Pro class winner Shawn Hess. But
after closer review Aldridge just logged one lap that
was faster than Hess did. But none the less Aldridge
was on the gas and won his class by a large margin.
Robby Bunch recovered from a first turn tango with Taylor
Mink to move into third by the end of the first lap.
Bunch then moved into second but later retired from
the race. Porter started off in second but had some
issues with tires and pitted for a different set and
rejoined the race in a distant sixth place. I guess
he made the correct decision as he quickly move through
the field and found himself in second place at the flag.
Taylor Mink finished third and look to be in good form
on this very wet track. Glenn Hess appears to be fully
recovered from an injury sustained a while back while
practicing near home as he took first place in the 30+
class. Garrett Oliver won the Junior class followed
by Tyler Nichols, Jason Thomas, Chad Temple and Colby
Nix.
After the A Program race Sunday morning it looked
like the sun was going to come out and put an end to
the rain. Well that was short lived and once starting
time rolled around for the B Program the skies darkened
up and begin to leak more fluid. The rain only lasted
for the first lap and then the sun did come out. Micah
Ames put in some very fast laps and took the class win
and the overall from the B Program. His brother Cody
Ames also took the win in the Youth class. In the 4-ST
class Phil Enis finished first followed by Taylor Pierce,
Marty Buchanan, Roman Solarczyk, and Conner Sebesta.
“Primetime” Gary Davis is back and took
the win in the 45+ class. And Larry Gustine took the
win in the 40+ class. The perfect conditions for Utility
quads this weekend and Randy Lewis showed the class
the fast way around the track. Second went to Mike Rogers’s
followed by William Towns, Danny Price and David Lee.
Next race is at Rabbit Creek in Kilgore Texas on September
24.
