Best in the Desert - Silver
State 300 - UTV Race Report
::Continued::
LSR Racing’s Branden Sims had a good race and
held down the physical lead for the entire race.
Sims crossed the finish line first, but with the
time adjustment, he ended his day in fourth place.
Sims is currently fifth in series points, but
is only one point off of fourth place and is looking
to take over the position at the next round.

Scott Kiger was having a good race and started
in thirteenth. Kiger ended up with a flat at about
the 150 mile mark, which is usually a quick fix,
but a broken wrench hampered their efforts and
set them back. “We got up over the hill and pulled
off to change the tire, and we found out we had
a broken wrench, so we had to improvise, which
took a little while,” said Sims.

After the change, Kiger put the hammer down and
was able to round out the top five. “I was hoping
to come out with more than a top five, but we
did get some points. We hope to come back strong
for the next round and see where we are after
that,” said Kiger, who is third in points.
ELKA’s Cory and Scott Sappington had a good race
in their Can-Am Maverick Turbo. Scott Sappington
was the first driver and he was making progress
and gaining time when he came upon another car
that had caught fire. Sappington stopped to make
sure everyone was ok, before he continued on.
Only about a mile later, he lost a drive belt,
which took about 15 minutes to repair. At the
150 mile mark, Cory Sappington took over as driver
and made a hard charge to finish in sixth place.
“I had the pleasure of being the guy off the line.
About 25 miles in, we saw a car on fire, so we
turned around and went back to make sure everyone
was ok. We continued on and we saw the leader.
We were about 500 feet behind, and we ended up
blowing a belt,” said Scott Sappington.
