Parker, AZ (10/11/2016) - Cognito
Racing’s Justin Lambert scored his sixth victory
of the season and Can-Am’s Cory Sappington snagged
his first win in years during the Best in the Desert
Bluewater Desert Challenge SXS race at Bluewater
Resort and Casino in Parker, Arizona. Lambert finished
second overall and first in the UTV Production Class,
while Sappington topped the Turbo UTV Class. History
was made as eight-year-old Max Gordon teamed up
with his father, off-road racing legend Robby Gordon,
becoming the youngest competitor in BITD history
to drive in the series.
Temperatures were in the high 90s both days and
speed was the name of the day on Saturday with
lap times topping the charts. Sunday featured
a much rougher course with plenty of square edges,
deep holes and sand whoops. The race featured
a two-day format with three laps each day and
a grand prix style finish.
Desert Toyz Racing’s Cory Sappington teamed up
with his brother Scott in the Turbo Class and
the pair smoked the field. They scored their first
victory ever in the Can-Am in dominating fashion.
Jacob Carver was second, ahead of points leader
Brandon Sims.

Toyz' Scott Sappington charted through the
pack on Saturday to secure the overall win
in the Can-Am Maverick |
“My brother Scott started on Saturday and he
passed 15 cars on the first lap,” said Cory Sappington.
“He finished first overall by 12 seconds. We’re
super proud of him and our team. We’ve been working
for 12 years to get the right combination. On
Sunday, we never saw another car get close to
us. I pushed as hard as I could and had three-minute
lead at the end. I’m proud to represent Can-Am
and my team.

“We just had a great overall weekend and it was
a long time coming,” added Sappington. “This is
my first overall victory since the Rhino days.
This is a huge day and I’m beaming inside. I went
to the express lane at the register, and I checked
out.”
Jacob Carver recorded his third runner-up finish
of the season. He was slowed during Saturday’s
race with a belt issue and rebounded on Sunday
to finish second.

ITP's
Jacob Carver secured yet another 2nd Place
finish in the BITD UTV Turbo Class |
“We started on the second row on Saturday and
the race was pretty smooth until about the second
lap,” said Carver. “We thought we blew a belt
and it was actually just slipping. After that,
we put on as much time as we could. On Sunday,
we went out to make up as much time as possible.”
