2011 ATV Extreme Dirt
Track - Round 3 - Pro & Pro-Am Race Report
::Continued::
Michael Coburn was at a disadvantage this weekend
and would only end up running one class instead
of his usual two to three classes. Coburn, who
is getting ready to defend his title, and world
record, at the annual Pike’s Peak Hillclimb,
only had one quad to ride for the race, and it
was on an old motor as when his new engine showed
up at the track, the cases were cracked, forcing
him to run on old equipment.

#038 Michael Coburn spent most of the weekend
watching the racing action from the sidelines
due to complications that limited his focus
to just the Pro Class Race |

Filter's #038 Michael Coburn claimed a 4th
place finish in the Pro Class & now
his focus will switch the Pike's Peak Hillclimb,
which is less than 2 weeks away |
“I was at a bit of a disadvantage so I just
focused on the Pro class and keeping in the points
race. I didn’t want to run another class and
jeopardize my points with a mechanical failure,”
said Coburn.
Coburn was in second off the start in the Pro
class and was keeping a good pace, but running
an older motor took its toll and Coburn fell off
the pace a bit, allowing Brad Riley to close the
gap. Coburn tried his best, but Riley was determined
to get by and after the pair connected, Coburn
would fall back for a fourth place finish.
Can-Am’s Chuckie Creech stayed consistent
to round out the top five.
Brian Ace, who wreck on the final restart, was
sent to the back for the final start and charged
his way up to take a respectable sixth place.
Trent Powell, who took second in his heat race hung
on for seventh in the main event, while Charlie
Calloway claimed eighth. Kristopher Bures had a
slower than normal start and would finish in ninth,
and Rusty Tanner would round out the top ten in
the Pro class.
Frank Batista ran into a bit of bad luck this
weekend. Batista did well in his heat races, but
suffered an engine failure in the Pro main event
that caused him to fall back to last place. “I’ve
had some bad luck, but I’m hoping that’s
behind us now. I’ve been doing well in my
heat races, so I’m hoping to turn things
around at Danville and be on the podium,”
said Batista, who was certainly disappointed after
this round, but staying optimistic for the remainder
of the rounds left in the season.
