Extreme Dirt Track Racing Amateur Report
Taylor Masset Wins Amateur Open Class

Extreme Dirt Track ATV Racing
Round #1 - Links

Sioux Falls, SD (6/6/2014) - The Extreme Dirt Track ATV racing series is packed full of fast action from the Pro riders who compete in three different classes known as Pro, Pro-Am Unlimited, and Pro-Am. However, the majority of the day consists of those up-and-coming racers who are the future of this sport. Let’s take a look and see how they stacked up this weekend at the first round of the 2014 season.

The Amateur Open class was by far the biggest of the amateur ranks with seventeen entries lining up on the chalk starting area and proved to be a fierce battle for the lead during the main event. With this many riders heading into the first turn, it was no telling who could pull off the early lead, let alone hang on for the rest of the race.

Fortunately for Taylor Masset, number #15 from Lake Stevens, WA, he was able to get a good starting position in second place as he tucked in behind Wisconsin native Jacob Foti who snagged the holeshot. PEP / Baldwin / FOX’s Masset was able to sneak around Foti within the first lap and keep a fast lap time going up front and was able to secure the win during the main event, a big win after traveling twenty three hours from home for the race!

Rath Racing / AMSOIL / PEP’s Jacob Foti was the holeshot winner for the main event and held a clear lead for the first portion of the initial lap but fell off pace to Masset who slipped around him early on. Foti kept up his pace however and never let any of the other equally as challenging riders come from behind to take over his position. Foti took a third place finish in his heat earlier in the day but was able to better that position by one spot better for his main event, a great start to his season as well.

Fierce Powersports / FOX Head / OHLINS’ Matthew Hermiller from Ottawa, OH was up in the thick-of-things from the start of the race as well coming out of the holeshot in third place behind Foti and Masset. Hermiller did not lose, nor gain any positions during the race as he kept his pace up and remained mistake free to bring home a third place position during the main event.

The Women’s class is always a good race to watch as the ladies like to dice it up just like the guys! Multi-time national Women’s champion Paula Shank wasn’t in attendance for this round so it was up to the remaining six EDT women to duke it out for the top spot.

Robert’s Racing / RATH / Elka / FLY’s Bailey Shea was back in action for the opening round of the season and proved she has what it takes to top the podium in the Women’s class. Shea was off and running with a good start as she tucked in behind Andrea Creech who snagged the holeshot. From there, Shea slowly worked in closer and closer to Creech and waiting for a passing opportunity to arise. This chance came late in the race which saw Shea sneaking on the inside option line and stealing the position away in time for the checkered flag, resulting in a round one win for Shea.
