Suzuki's Chris Borich Claims Round
2 Win & Ties Taylor Kiser for the
Pro Points Lead |
Washington, GA - Round #2 of
the Can Am GNCC Racing series was held at the
Aonia Pass MX facility and would feature a diverse
mix of terrain. Many hours of hard work and testing
would be put in for the riders as the switch from
the Floridian sand to the Georgia clay would require
changes to their set up. With 20 XC1 racers on
the line for round two, this was shaping up to
be a very fast paced race with almost perfect
racing conditions on tap.
Chris Borich headed into the last lap with
one very hard charging Chris Bithell in his
sights. Borich’s decision to pit for a
splash of fuel paid off big as Bithell ran out
of gas allowing Borich and his Rockstar Suzuki
to race to the checkered flag for his first
win of the 2009 season.
For Chris Borich, taking 2nd at round one would
be a good starting point to build on for his
run at the 2009 championship. His race started
off here at round two with a good position as
he headed into the woods and would remain in
the top 3 for most of the race, taking the lead
on the final lap and racing to the checkered
flag to secure his win. This win now has him
tied for the class points with two rounds of
competition completed. Borich joined fellow
Suzuki racer Dustin Wimmer at the top of the
standings in this past weekends racing action
as Wimmer also secured an overall win on the
west coast as the ATVA MX series celebrated
its opener at Glen Helen.

Yamaha's
Taylor Kiser back on the Podium for the
2nd straight race |
Taylor Kiser may be running as a privateer
this season after the economic waters muddied,
forcing team FRE-KTM to cut back on its pro
support. Kiser closed ranks with his Yamaha
friends and quickly struck deep as he pulled
off the win at round one riding a Yamaha YFZ450.
Riding solid all day long, Kiser found himself
in second when the race ended, providing the
Florida native with his second podium visit
of the season. Kiser and Chris Borich are now
locked in a point’s battle where every
single point could play an important roll. Kiser
was the highest finishing Yamaha rider in two
rounds of competition, sending a message that
as a privateer he will be just as strong on
the track this season even lacking the team
support he had in 2008.

Adam McGill grabs the Pro ATV Holeshot |
|
For
the 2nd straight race, the Podium has
belonged to Borich, Kiser & McGill,
so will they continue to hold a grip on
the Podium at Steele Creek, time will
tell |
FRE-KTM rider Adam McGill would grab the holeshot
and lead most of the first few laps before Can
Am mounted Chris Bithell assumed the lead. McGill
was always within striking distance but couldn’t
close the deal on a win and settled into the
third position and remained there when the race
ended. Back to back 3rd place finishes has McGill
in a good position as he we head to rounds that
favor the West Virginians riding style and he
could easily be mixing it up in the points as
he currently sits just behind Kiser and Borich
and holds the 3rd position there as well.
Finishing 4th at round two was a big relief
for Yamaha mounted Brandon Sommers. After mechanical
issues took him out of contention at the opening
rounds, Sommers needed a solid finish here at
Georgia to keep him in the points chase. Sitting
tied for the 8th points position, Sommers could
easily climb into the top 5 over the next two
rounds if he can put solid races together.

Jarrod McClure has went blue for the GNCC
Series for 2009, but he is still on the
red out west in the WORCS Series |
Jarrod McClure would round out the top 5 as
his race ended here at round two. With a fast
track on hand, making up ground would be tough
for all the competitors however McClure remained
consistent and found himself solidly in the
mix with the series elite. Jarrod made the switch
to a Yamaha for the GNCC series and as long
as no issue arise, we should see him run inside
the top 10 all season long and a win isn’t
out of his reach as he found the podium twice
in 2008. While his off season riding time was
cut short due to weather, his physical training
was elevated and round three should be the race
he can break out at and show us what he has
for 2009.
