Yamaha's
XC2's Brian Wolf Wins Overall followed
by Chris Borich & Bill Ballance |
Snowshoe, WV (6/27/2009) - The
last round of GNCC Racing at SnowShoe Ski Resort
before the Summer Break is now wrapped up with
a surprise overall winner in the Afternoon with
XC2 Points Leader, Brian Wolf, claiming the overall
win ahead of XC1’s Chris Borich & Bill
Ballance finishing back to back at the checkered.
With a grand prix style start with five racers
at a time taking off on the payment, Yamaha’s
Brian Wolf start several rows back behind the
Pro XC1 ATV class racers, but despite not being
physically out front battling for the lead,
he was leading the overall with adjusted time,
and he crossed the finish line behind Suzuki’s
Chris Borich & Yamaha’s Bill Ballance,
but with his adjusted time, he claimed the overall
win by a margin of nearly 1.5 minutes with adjust
time over Borich in 2nd Overall.
Borich and Ballance battle nearly wheel to
wheel in the final lap of the race, with Borich
claiming the pro class win with Ballance in
2nd. Yamaha’s Brandon Sommers was able
to out power XC Bob’s Jarrod McClure up
the ski slope to the finish line to claim the
third spot followed by McClure in 4th, and Bryan
Cook rounded out the Top 5.
Yamaha’s Donald Ockerman lead for most
of the race, but dropped back to 6th in the
final lap of the race. Can-Am’s Chris
Bithell ran strong the entire race and secured
the seventh spot in the Pro Class & 8th
Overall.
KTM’s Josh Kirkland finished an impressive
9th Overall and second in the XC2 Class ahead
of Ryan Lane in 10th Overall.
Taylor Kiser finished a disappointing 11th
Overall after running into issues in the final
lap of the race ,and Adam McGill lead early
in the race, but suffered a mechanical issue
which sidelined him from finishing. Johnny Gallagher
also dropped out of the race when he broke off
this foot peg twice on the shifter side, and
GBC’s Jeffrey Pickens crashed early in
the race, which sent him over the bars and broke
his rear shock, which ended his day as well.
Also, Matt Smiley made a surprise appearance
this weekend as he came out of retirement in
hopes of claiming a piece of the bonus $18,000
up for grabs for the top three overall finishers
in the Afternoon.
Yamaha’s Walker Fowler was once again
the top amateur ATV racer, finishing an impressive
18th Overall and claimed the College A Class
Win ahead of Can-Am’s Jamie Bithell finishing
in 20th Overall.
In the Morning Race, Warnert / Can-Am’s
Michael Swift claimed the overall win and his
nine straight 4x4 Limited Class win to wrap-up
the Championship for 2009. Finishing in 2nd
Overall was Can-Am’s Jerime Dudding who
edged out Can-Am’s Scott Kilby by a fraction
of a second to claim the second spot with Kilby
finishing in third overall.
KTM’s Angel Atwell claimed her 6th win
of the season over Traci Cecco in the 2nd spot
and GBC Motorsport’s Jesi Stracham finished
a career best third in the Women’s Class
