Snowshoe GNCC - Round 9
Snowshoe, WV (6/30/2016) - Hometown hero Bryan Buckhannon came out atop a four-quad scramble to win the 4X4 Pro ATV class at the AMSOIL Snowshoe GNCC. It marked his first victory of the season. Buckhannon, from nearby Daniels, WV, rode his Can-Am Outlander to first ahead of Kevin Trantham. Points leader Kevin Cunningham was third, followed by Michael Swift and Ben Bruce.

The Snowshoe event celebrated its 10th running on a low note as torrential rains and flooding enveloped West Virginia. Leading into the event, nearly 10 inches of rain fell, making the two-tiered course brutal, as well as making it difficult for racers to reach the mountain resort. The race featured its traditional Grand Prix style start with rows of five set by points starting on the pavement in front of the ski resort. The race was held in its traditional slot, just prior to GNCC’s summer break.

Cunningham quickly ripped off the holeshot at the start, while Cody Miller began charging from his second-row start. Miller quickly caught the lead pack and took the lead on time. Unfortunately for the motocross veteran and GNCC rookie, he hit a deep wash out, which ejected him from his quad and sent his Can-Am full speed into a telephone pole. He was unhurt.

Buckhannon, who had fallen back to sixth, was quickly into the lead, though the three racers behind him were not letting up. On the final lap, Buckhannon just held off Trantham to score the victory, becoming the sixth racer to win in nine races this season.

“With all of the flooding in West Virginia, it was nice to have a win,” said Buckhannon, who is fourth in points. “We came off two second-place finishes, so I knew the bike could do it. It was just up to me to get it done. Catching this win going into the summer break will just carry me through. Coming out for the second half of the season, we’re close to both third and second place in points. We want to win the last four. That is my goal.”

Buckhannon had his hands full with Trantham’s Polaris dogging him to the finish. He just held him to net the victory.
