This past weekend, Jeremy Lawson claimed another
win for the Can-Am/Motoworks team, but what makes
this race stand out is that this was the ITP 6-Hour
Endurance Race, which is usually done as a team
effort, but Lawson decided that he would make a
solo attempt.

#16 Jeremy Lawson Claims the 6 Hour Quadcross
Overall Win |
Jeremy’s spur of the moment decisions to
race have paid off for him in the last couple
of weeks as he took the win at the Big 6 race
in Adelanto last week on a last minute effort,
and again this weekend at Glen Helen. “It
was another last minute deal. I decided the night
before to come out here and give it a shot,”
said Lawson.
Lawson and team MCR member Beau Baron battled
for a little while in the first lap, but Baron
backed off a bit and Lawson wasted no time in
consistently increasing his lead with each lap.
Lawson’s Can-Am DS450 performed flawlessly
for the entire six hours, which allowed Lawson
to claim the fastest lap of the race in lap five
with a time of just over 10 minutes and 9 seconds.
Even though the 6+ mile course became quite rough
over the course of the race, it didn’t seem
to slow Lawson down as he completed 33 laps and
finished with almost a 10 minute lead over team
MCR, which consisted of Mike Cafro, Levi Marana,
and Beau Baron. “It was pretty tough racing
for six hours, but it was fun and I’m glad
I did it,” Lawson stated who had a pretty
good 2008 season with Epic, but is now pretty
happy racing under the Can-Am/Motoworks banner.
“Things have been going good with Motoworks.
They’ve done a great job on my bike so far,
plus I get to come out to California more often
to train and do a lot of riding,” Jeremy
said.

Team MCR's Beau Baron dials in the Elka
suspension on his Honda 450R to prepare
for the 2009 WORCS Season |
Lawson was not the only racer out there to do some
fine tuning and testing on their machines for the
upcoming season, as team MCR was doing the same
thing with their Honda’s that they will be
using for the 2009 WORCS series. “Our main
objective for being here was to try and do some
testing on the bikes and get things dialed in a
little more since we only have about a month before
WORCS starts back up again,” said Beau Baron.
The MCR team also ran the entire race without any
difficulties and secured second in the 450 Expert
class under Jeremy Lawson. “We had fun out
here and were able to accomplish a few things as
well like getting our suspension dialed in,”
said Baron who is anxious for the 2009 WORCS season
to get under way.

#53 Kory Ellis came out retirement to have
some fun at the 6 Hour race in the "Business
Class" |
Suzuki’s Kory Ellis and Dustin Wimmer also
came out to give the ITP 6-Hour race a try in
the “Business” class. Ellis was originally
partnered up with his girlfriend for the race,
but unfortunately, she crashed and suffered a
broken wrist, but Kory was not left on his own.
Dustin Wimmer stepped up and took over to help
Ellis finish the race.
Although Lawson had amazing results this weekend,
he does not plan on dedicating himself to endurance
racing anytime soon, even with his Motoworks teammates
attending the PIAA 8-hour race in Phoenix, AZ
on January 10th. “Josh (Frederick) and those
guys are in that to win it, so I think I’ll
leave that race up to them,” said Jeremy.
However, there could still be another last minute
decision and Lawson could try his luck at endurance
racing once again.
