ITP QuadCross - Round #9
Glen Helen Raceway Park - Back Track
San Bernardino, CA

October 23, 2005

ITP QuadCross ATV Racing Series
Glen Helen Raceway Motocross Track
San Bernardino, CA - Round 9 of the ITP series was back at Glen Helen Raceway after about a month break from the last round in Surprise, Arizona . The race was being held on the back track instead of the famous National track, and it was running in the reverse direction of the last race at Glen Helen. They also made a few changes to the track as well including a new whoop section, which helps the track to become a little more technical.

Twelve Pro riders signed up for the event, which was below a full gate of twenty, but because of difficulties with the starting gate, they where forced to run qualifiers. One of the Pros this round happened to be Factory Yamaha’s Kory Ellis who use to be a regular in the ITP Series, but has only attended a few races the past couple of years because of his busy schedule racing in the GNC MX Nationals. Ellis was on a brand new YFZ450 which was virtually fresh off the showroom floor, and he was taking this race opportunity as a step toward preparing for 2006 Nationals. It was rumored that that Ellis was recovering from an injured collar bone, but nothing was confirmed. Either way, the fans and racers were excited to have their local hero back in California racing again, and even his parent’s made the trip down from Washington to watch their son race.

Pro Qualifier - One
#53 Kory Ellis returns to ITP Quadcross Racing & Wins the First Pro Qualifier

Once the gate dropped, Kory Ellis wasted no time putting his ALBA Action YFZ450 out front with the Holeshot with both Dustin Nelson and Danny Ragon right behind him heading into the first turn. By the third turn, Darrell Patton, in fourth, spun-out dropping him back the rear of the pack. Half way through the first lap Ellis and Nelson had already pulled a five second lead over Ragon in the third spot. The battle for the first place position was intense as Ellis and Nelson headed into the back section, with Nelson breathing down Ellis’s back in every corner. Everyone was on their feet waiting and watching for the pair to emerge from the back section to see who would be out front, and each time it would be Ellis maintaining the lead over Nelson through the very narrow back section. Meanwhile, the battle for the third spot intensified between Danny Ragon and Mike Machado as they jumped the step-up side by side with Machado taking over the third spot. Darrell Patton worked his way past Jason Weller and into the fifth place position. Out front, Ellis would catch a break when Nelson missed a gear before the step up giving Ellis an opportunity to pull away on the white flag lap. When the Checkered flag came out, it was the Ellis taking the win followed by Nelson and Machado

Pro Qualifier - Two
With two times ITP Champion, Jeremy Schell, on the starting gate along with Dana Creech, Doug Eichner, and several other top Pros, it was bound to be an exciting qualifier. Golden West Cycles, Jeremy Schell, catapulted out of the gate capturing the Holeshot through turn one followed by Dana Creech and Doug Eichner. Schell’s lead would be short lived, as Creech would make the pass and take over the lead before the end of lap one with Eichner remaining in third followed by Tony Munio. By the second lap, Dana Creech extended his lead to three seconds over Schell with Eichner beginning to apply the pressure to Schell for the second spot. Doug Eichner was waiting for the right moment to make his move, and he received it when Jeremy Schell over shot a corner allowing Eichner to slip past him and take over the second position. Jeremy Schell would end up having a flat tire, which forced him out of the race on the following lap, which allowed Tony Munio to move up to third. Dana Creech walked away from the pack and won the qualifier convincingly followed by Eichner and Munio.

#14 Jeremy Schell race ended when his front tire popped off the bead, and #52 Dana Creech takes the Win
#1 Doug Eichner finished the first Qualifier in second Place behind #52 Dana Crecch

Pro Main Event
#52 Dana Creech leads the way with the Holeshot in the Main

With starting gate positions determined, it was time for the start of the main event as the Pros lined the starting gate. Alba Actions newest rider, Dana Creech would grab the Holeshot when it counted the most with Kory Ellis and Dustin Nelson in hot pursuit with the point’s leader, Jeremy Schell, back in seventh place. With Creech out front, Schell knew he needed to pick up some position before the end of the race to maintain his points lead heading into the final round. By the third lap, Creech had once again separated himself from the rest of the pack with Nelson moving into second place followed by Ellis. Schell quickly worked his way up into the fourth spot, but a significant gap separated him from Ellis in the third spot. With the front runners spread out, the only battle remaining was between Mike Machado and Doug Eichner for the fifth spot with Eichner apply the pressure. Nic Granlund was in seventh until high centered and flipped his quad, which resulting in him dropping back to last place. Then both Machado and Eichner over shot a berm, but were the pair were able to return to the track before any had the opportunity to make the pass. The top four would remain unchanged for the duration of the race with Machado making one more mistake at the end of the race, which allowed Eichner to make the pass and take the fifth spot with Machado right behind him in sixth place.

#14 Jeremy Schell works his way past Eichner and Machado to finish in 4th place to maintain his series points lead
#61 Mike Machado is in a tight series points race with #35 Darrell Patton and #1 Doug Eichner for the 4th Place Finish

Shaking up the score board - with Dana Creech taking the overall win for this weekend, he closes in on the 2 time ITP QuadCross champion, Jeremy Schell, who currently leads the series with 177 points with Creech only ten points behind him with 167 points. Dustin Nelson remains a threat for the championship as well with 165 points sitting in third place.

The stage has been set for an exciting final round of racing on December 4th, which is less than a month away. With the final round being held on the Glen Helen National Track it will defiantly be one race you won’t want to miss especially with the possibility of several more top National Pros making the trip to Glen Helen to join Kory Ellis as they prepare for opening round of the GNC MX series scheduled to start the first weekend in February 2006 at Glen Helen.

The results currently posted on www.glenhelen.com do not match the results listed below because they incorporated the qualifiers into the scoring, which changed the Main Event results. The final results and points are still under review, but below are the actual results of the Pro Main.
