Gosport, IN (10/29/2015) - The 2015 WORCS Mid America Cross Country crowned Austin Gourley as the Pro ATV Champion after securing the win at the Rally in the Valley MAXC season finale in Gosport, Indiana.

All the marbles were on the line during the ATV races as the Pro championship was a toss-up between Austin Gourley and Braden Nichols who were very close in points heading into the MAXC final round.

Southbound Racing / MAXXIS / Elka’s Austin Gourley did not get a great start for himself as he came off the line in fourth place, however, he made quick work and took advantage of the fast course conditions to slide into second place by the midway point of lap one and then actually got into first place by the time the lap ended. Gourley proved he had what it took to hold onto the first place position by securing a large lead out from after he got around Jay Humphrey who was now in second place. Gourley finished the remainder of the race in first place and solidified his first place overall championship stake after finishing on the top of the podium. This was Gourley’s first time competing the full length of a season in the MAXC and it paid off for him greatly.

“This was a pretty crazy season for me with a few mistakes and missing around and then breaking down, it was really up in the air how the end of the season was going to go. I was up in points heading into this round and with this win it sealed up the championship for me. I couldn’t be happier and the people behind me are the ones who need to be thanked the most! Without them, it would not have been possible. The race today went great as well for me and it was a great track to race on and the weather was perfect today. I had a lot of fun and I’m looking forward to next season already,” said Gourley.

Penny Pinchin’ Racing / Moto-Xperts / Custom Axis’ Jay Humphrey had a battle on his hands immediately during the start of the last Pro row start of the season as he and Braden Nichols were bar-to-bar heading into the first turn. Humphrey held onto the gas a bit longer and braked later to come out on top and snag the holeshot and early lead. Humphrey stayed on the throttle to battle with Gourley for nearly the entire first lap but made a mistake on a downhill section which allowed Gourley to slip by and into the lead. Humphrey kept his head down however and pushed on to finish the course in second place overall, his fourth second-place finish of the season.

Derisi Racing / MAXXIS / RATH / Motosport’s Braden Nichols got off to an equally great start as Humphrey and was right there during the holeshot to battle for the title. Nichols settled for a second place start and was able to trail Humphrey for the first lap but then dropped back as Gourley pressured his way up to the lead. Nichols stayed on the gas and didn't make any mistakes for the remainder of the race and finished on the podium in third place, his seventh podium of the year. Unfortunately for Nichols, he finished in second place in the points chase, only twelve points behind Gourley for the season.
