With
two laps to go, Bryan Cook has stretched out a
two minute lead. |
Belwood, NC- Round Ten of the Mid
East Series was held at Parker Valley in Belwood, NC.
The race was exciting to watch for many classes. The
Pro Class had five regular points battling riders including
Mike Houston, Santo DeRisi, Gary Bryson, Bryan Cook,
and Matt Parker with two new riders, Jeff Maloney, who
starred at a couple of races earlier in the year in
the A Class and Jeff Robinson, the current 2006 Senior
Class Champion. With those seven riders, the green flag
went up and Maloney took the holeshot with Bryan Cook
edging into the inside. Maloney moved over to Cook’s
inside line and Bryson and Houston were able to pass
Cook on an outside line. Jumping over the table top,
Houston and Bryson’s wheels bumped and Houston
hit the inside burm and toppled his quad over.
At the end of lap one, Cook had taken over the lead
by twenty-five seconds with Parker in second. Fifteen
seconds back were Maloney, Bryson and Houston battling
for third. On the motocross track at the end of lap
two, Houston was able to get by Bryson with Maloney
and Houston battling hard for third. At the end of lap
three, the two lap card went out and Cook was holding
onto a two minute lead with Parker in second with Houston
closing fast on him. Bryson and Maloney were battling
for fourth and Santo DeRisi was overcoming some adversaries,
dropping him back to sixth.

These
two A rider stayed this close all day, with Josh
LaRusso taking the A Class win at the checkered
flag. |
The checkered flag went out to none other than Bryan
Cook, giving him his fourth overall for the season.
Mike Houston took second overall, over three minutes
back. Third overall was Matt Parker, taking his season’s
best finish only thirty seconds behind Houston. Working
his way all the way to fourth overall from the back
of the pack was Santo DeRisi, just four seconds behind
Parker, who was able to hold DeRisi off on the last
few jumps of the motocross.
In the A Class, Dustin Canipe took the early lead,
but Josh LaRusso was ready to take his first win. By
the end of lap two, LaRusso was pressuring Canipe for
the lead and once LaRusso was out front, he was able
to check out and take his first A Class win and a fifth
overall finish. Canipe was just twenty seconds back
to take sixth overall. Jeff Maloney and Gary Bryson
battled it out on the last lap finishing seventh and
eighth overall respectively, separated by only two seconds.
Taking tenth overall from the third row, the Vet Class,
Joey Coogler took his eighth win of the season in the
Vet Class giving him rights to be 2006 Vet Class Chamion

Matthew
Parker takes his season's best third overall,
after running second overall for some of the day

In the 4 stroke B Class, Jason Walker took the early
lead and soon the fight was between Trent Bryson and
Andrew Cornell after Walker experienced a little trouble.
Bryson has been struggling for top finishes all year
and was looking to get a break. At the checkered flag,
Bryson was just twenty seconds ahead of Cornell and
was able to take eleventh overall with Cornell twelfth.
Following behind them were Jason Walker just seconds
behind Cornell and Mike Maloney and James Reeves, all
in the 4 stroke B Class.
Second place in the Vet Class went to Kenny Hemmings,
with sixteenth overall. The Senior Class winner was
Scott Canipe as he took his first win of the season
by over two minutes. Winning the two stroke class was
Dale Woody. Just missing the top twenty overall was
the 4 stroke C 16-24 year old class winner, Kaleb Nicholson,
after racing a flawless race from start to finish. This
was Kaleb’s fourth consecutive win as this second
half of the season has proved to be productive for him.

Mike
Houston takes second overall |
Now in the 2006 Point’s Chase, Mike Houston was
wrapped up another Pro Class Championship just after
ten races. Even with a second place, Dustin Canipe wrapped
up the A Class Championship. The 4 stroke B Class Championship
is still undecided, but Jason Walker took over the lead,
looking promising for a Championship ahead. With many
classes already decided, both C Classes still have not
determined a winner, nor has the 2 stroke Class, so
come out at Round 11 at the Yadkinville, NC track in
two weeks and test your skill in the Mid East Series
