San
Bernardino, CA (4/25/2008)
– The 21st annual MTA 4-Stroke Nationals,
which had previously been backed by White Brothers,
took place on April 19-20 at Glen Helen Raceway
and saw Justin Noss take a 1-1 victory on his Yamaha
over Suzuki’s Kory Ellis, who came out of
retirement for the event.
The MTA 4-Stroke Nationals is an annual event
that is directed more toward the dirtbikes in
order to help kick off the outdoor season, but
it does offer classes for ATV’s as well,
with novice quad classes held on Saturday and
expert and pro classes held on Sunday with a $1500.00
pro purse up for grabs.

Three
Time 4-Stroke Champion, Kory Ellis, applying
the pressure to Justin Noss |
The race was a typical 2-moto format that consisted
of 8 laps per moto. As the gate dropped for the
first moto, it was the #40 Yamaha of Chris Riley
who took the holeshot followed by Justin Noss
and Dennis Capogni. Kory Ellis and Darrell Patton
were the last two off the line but feverishly
worked their way up. “I recently had some
motor work done to my KTM 525, and it wasn’t
running quite right on the flat areas,”
said Patton.
Riley was leading moto 1 for the first lap, but
on the 2nd lap he encountered a deep rut that left
him stuck and put him back to last place, allowing
Justin Noss to take over the lead with Ellis hot
on his heels. “Kory put on a good charge,
but dropped back a bit half way through the moto,”
said Noss who had about a 30 second lead when he
crossed the finish line. Ellis finished the first
moto in 2nd with Darrell Patton in 3rd, Dennis Capogni
in 4th and Clayton Endes in 5th.

For the 2nd moto it was Justin Noss who grabbed
the holeshot with Chris Riley in 2nd and Ellis
in 3rd. Noss took full advantage of his holeshot
and checked out on everyone. Meanwhile, Riley
was doing an excellent job of holding off Ellis.
Riley finally gave in to the pressure from Ellis
and the #53 Suzuki slipped past, taking over 2nd
place. “I was just out there having fun
this weekend,” said Ellis. “A lot
of guys were at the WORCS race this weekend so
I just wanted to come out here and race without
any pressure.” Kory, who was on a pretty
much stock bike, estimates that it has been about
5 months since he has had the time to get out
and ride as his new position as Suzuki Team Manager
has been keeping him quite busy.

4-Stroke ATV Motocross Championship |
As the checkered flag was waved it was Justin
Noss in 1st with another 30 second lead, with
Ellis in 2nd, Chris Riley in 3rd, Darrell Patton,
who was the ’04 4-Stroke Nationals champion,
was in 4th, and Keith Taylor rounded out the top
five. “I’ve been waiting to do that
for a long time!” Justin Noss said excitedly
about his win over Ellis.
All though Kory Ellis came out to race the MTA
4-Stroke Nationals, he does not plan to return
to racing full time. “I just came out here
to have fun and really don’t have any races
planned for the future,” said Kory. Perhaps
if we are lucky, we can catch Kory out on the
track at next years’ MTA 4-Stroke Nationals.
