Middleboro, MA – A perfect
day was on tap, at least it was for Mike Pilotte
at round eight of the New England Motocross series.
Four moto wins had Pilotte sweeping both the Open
Pro and open Pro-am classes and closing in on
points leader Joe Haavisto.

Capeway Rovers is a track that is know for
its limited passing opportunities, so getting
a good start is crucial if you want to win,
and that’s just what Mike Pilotte did.
Pilotte charged off the line in the first moto
of the Open Pro class, taking the lead and never
looking back.
As Pilotte checked out, Kawasaki’s Joe
Haavisto had his hands full trying to work his
way through traffic. “I was able to get
around several people but the track is really
single lined and it’s hard to pass, so
by the time I got up to second it was too late
to catch Pilotte,” said Haavisto.
Aaron Meyer was looking good as well as he
was holding a strong fourth place behind KTM’s
Nate Morello off the line, but when Haavisto
came charging through, Morello was forced high
into a berm, which allowed Haavisto, Meyer and
Jasmin Plante to sneak by. Morello’s mishap
allowed Aaron Meyer to cross the finish line
in third, followed by Jasmin Plante in fourth
while leaving Morello to settle for fifth.

In Pro moto two, Nate Morello grabbed the holeshot,
but the number eight Honda of Michael Pilotte
would get by early in the first lap and again
take an early lead and pull away. A couple of
corners later, Plante would also make the pass
on Morello, dropping Morello back to third where
he would come under pressure from Haavisto.
With only a few laps to go, Haavisto would take
the inside line, once again forcing Morello
high into the berm. “That caused me to
get stuck a little bit but then Aaron Meyer
accidentally hit me from behind and got me unstuck,”
said Morello.
Pilotte’s strong 1-1 finish gave him
the overall Open Pro win. Joe Haavisto’s
2-3 earned him second overall and still has
him hanging on to the points lead. Jasmin Plante’s
consistency put him in the number three spot
on the podium, while Nate Morello claimed a
respectable fourth, and Polaris mounted Aaron
Meyer would round out the top five.
Rocco Arno, Jr. would take a 7-5 finish to
put him in sixth overall with Myles Santaniello
in a close seventh. Can-Am’s Matt Pomeroy
would hang on to take the number eight spot
overall with Vincent Mofford in ninth and Jason
Connell rounding out the top ten in the Open
Pro class.
