Hanging Limb, TN -The 2008 OMA Nationals
Series started off with the Maxxis Hangman XC, a
wet and wild event in Hanging Limb, Tennessee. During
the three days prior to the event, over three inches
of rainfall soaked the track and the surrounding
area. Flood warnings were being run on the local
news. The area, which is located very close to the
site of the Loretta Lynn’s GNCC, shares the
same type of hilly terrain with the historic off-road
venue.
It was obviously going to be a soaker as the
stream beds were filled with water and the runoff
from the hills was flowing steadily across the
track during the practice lap. Long, steep uphills
with multiple lines were all over the place, and
these would surely create good action and passing
opportunities. A double stream crossing, which
was already filling up with spectators, would
surely make or break many riders during the event.
The OMA Series has started to attract more crossover
riders from other series, and the Hangman XC was
the first OMA event for Missouri native and GNCC
veteran Bryan Hulsey. Bryan and I raced together
for quite a few seasons, and he is a very fast
rider. He finished fourth overall at the Loretta
Lynn’s GNCC in 1997. Craig Reed and David
Crane, both top 20 GNCC Pro riders, were at the
Hangman event. OMA regulars Rob Zimmerman and
Matt Lindle returned to the series again.

Jason
Gudde Lead the Pro ATV pack through the
first turn to start round one
of the OMA Nationals pro atv 2008 season.
Gudde battled for six laps and
came home with seventh place in class for
the day |
The race started under overcast skies, with Jason
Gudde grabbing the Holeshot in front of Matt Lindle.
Matt would have a kicker buck him off his quad
on the first lap, but he was able to remount and
finish. Rob Zimmerman and I worked our way to
the front, when Craig Reed came up on us both
and managed to get around us to take the lead.
Craig opened up a lead, and was showing the speed
which landed him a 13th overall ranking in the
GNCC’s in 2007.
