Johnny Gallagher, the veteran racer from
Cleveland, Ohio, took the hole shot and looked
very good for the first hour. The pace eventually
caught up with Gallagher, who was just returning
to racing after some time off. The Factory
Yamaha racer said “About half way through
I kind of dropped anchor and got a little
tired and settled in to a pace that was a
little slower than Chris wanted to go. The
next thing I knew, he caught me. I wouldn’t
say I let him go. He took it. I ended up trying
to hang with him and it was just real hard
in the dust.” Given the dusty conditions,
Gallagher settled his GT Thunder Yamaha in
to a slightly slower pace after being passed
by Bithell. Late in the race Gallagher spotted
Jeff Pickens’ helmet. “I realized
that I wasn’t going to let that happen,”
he recalled. “So I picked it up the
last couple laps and was able to stretch it
out on him coming in to the last lap.”
After ten laps of dusty motocross and some
tight, twisty woods sections Johnny Gallagher
captured second place with a time of two hours,
ten minutes, and thirty seconds.

Third place went to a very likeable pro racer
from Uniontown, Pennsylvania. Jeff Pickens
was running well with his Moose Racing Honda
450R but just could not overtake Johnny Gallagher.
Pickens said “They both had a good ride.
They did really well today, put it on me pretty
good.” The GT Thunder Hyper Wheels racer
had a “pretty good” day. He said
“I did better than I expected I guess,
so I’m happy about that.”

A large field of ATV racers turned out to enjoy
another great day of racing in the Parts Unlimited
OMA Nationals Series. Another new winner stood
atop the podium, while KTM racer David Crane
moved in to the series points lead. The friendly
young man from Mississippi completed three laps
before dropping out with overheating issues.
Three time series champion Rob Zimmerman, who
is in a tight points battle with Crane, was
absent from this race. The Honda Pro is recovering
from a wrist injury he suffered in practice
before round five in Michigan. Zimmerman is
currently twelve points out of first. Twenty
three points separate the top five ATV Pro’s
in the series championship race, while second
through fourth have a spread of only five points.
Things are really getting interesting in the
race for the number one plate. Check out
omanationals.com
for more information on this exciting, challenging,
and unique racing series. This is off road racing.
