The Gieson Motorsports
Yamaha of Curt DeMay winds through a
twisty bit of woods at the Moose Run.
DeMay took home third place at the event.

Third place went to local racer Curt DeMay
after he capitalized on his knowledge of the
area. According to DeMay “going through
the fields, all the arrows were knocked down
so everyone was going every way. I’m a
local guy so I kind of knew where we were going.
The other guys were just standing there waiting,
like, where do we go, so I went. Then they followed
me for about a lap.” After leading most
of the pack through the first lap on his Moose
Racing Mom and Dad sponsored Yamaha DeMay began
to lose some positions. “The second lap
they all got by me,” recalled DeMay. He
eventually made up some ground and managed to
cross the finish line just ahead of John Pitts
to claim third place on a track DeMay described
as “wide open fields, tight woods, logs
everywhere.”
A Class ATV racer turned Pro John Pitts was
disappointed with fourth place but still said
it was “A great race. Lots of log jumps.
You had to be careful jumping the logs next
to the river.” He said it was “another
fun one. A great season and I can’t wait
to do it again next year.” The St.Louis
based Dirtworks Performance Rekluse Honda rider
locked up victory in the A class with two races
left in the season so he chose to compete in
the final two events as a Pro. Results from
these final two events of 2008 indicate that
John Pitts should be a front runner for the
2009 OMA Nationals season.

Ten races have gone in to the record books
to complete the 2008 Parts Unlimited OMA Nationals
Series. The overall season champion was not
decided until the results of the Moose Run were
tallied. Bryan Hulsey took his Dirtworks Performance
Honda to a string of victories that provided
just three points margin of victory over three
time series champion Rob Zimmerman. Hulsey will
ride with the number one plate for 2009 while
Zimmerman will retain his second place spot
in the series. Seventeen year old Aupperle Racing
Honda rider Shane Gaunt missed this event with
a shoulder injury but the Morton, Illinois teenager
collected enough points to capture the number
three position behind a couple of older and
more experienced racers. The 2008 season was
exciting at every event and 2009 is shaping
up to take the competition up another notch.
