                                         Reigning OMA Nationals
                                          champion Bryan Hulsey captured second
place at the round five event near Hixton,
                                          Wisconsin. The Duncan Racing Dirtworks
                                          Motorsports Honda rider currently holds
third place in the series points battle. |

The next machine in Hulsey’s sights was
the Aupperle Racing Rekluse Honda of Shane Gaunt.
The youngster from Illinois was running fast lap
times and appeared to be on his way to second
place. “I caught Shane (Gaunt) and rode
behind him for a little bit until he started dropping
off. Then he let me have it,” said Hulsey.
Gaunt was overcome with some type of illness and
had to drop out after his seventh lap. “I
was really hot. Then I went from being hot to
being cold. Then I started feeling weird and I
got blurry,” recalled Gaunt. “I had
to stop. I was just feeling really wobbly.”
Hulsey now had a clear shot at the Houser Racing
Hot Rods Honda of Texan Shawn Hess. The pass came
late in the race as Hess stopped for a splash
of fuel. According to Hulsey “I ended up
catching Shawn Hess, and got close enough to him
that when he pitted for fuel is when I passed
him. Once I got by him, he hung with me for about
a half a lap. Then I guess maybe once we hit the
motocross I must have dusted him out.”

steering stem left Texan Shawn Hess
battling his Houser Racing ElkaSuspension Honda as well as the other
racers. Hess rode a strong race and
 finished in third place.

Shawn Hess completed the podium group, taking
third place with his Elka Suspension Flexx Handlebars
machine. “It was a good race. I really
had a lot of fun out there,” stated Hess.
“We had some good battling going on. I
was up in second, had been in second and third
all day.” Hess was making good time and
managed to put in the fast lap of the day on
lap number six. But the friendly young man from
Texas had some difficulty with steering his
machine after an incident with a tree. “The
first lap I clipped a tree and twisted my stem,”
he recalled “That made it pretty rough
in the tight stuff.” The results were
not exactly what Shawn Hess was looking for,
but, he said, “We got back up on the podium
with this one in third and got things going
                                  in the right direction.”

It was dusty and hot in Wisconsin for this
round of the Parts Unlimited OMA Nationals series.
Different challenges await the racers at every
event, but at least at this one, as John Pitts
aptly stated, “it wasn’t muddy or
anything.” Another Gusse course that was
full of challenges for every racer. With a good
mix of tight trails and open stretches, along
with a large motocross track, this race presented
its own unique set of tests for the racers.
