Bryan Hulsey was
charging toward the lead in a late race
push at the SIDI Mizzu XC. However,
a failed foot peg sidelined the Duncan
Racing UM Performance Honda one lap
short of the finish, leaving Hulsey
with fourth place.

Fourth place in class went to Bryan Hulsey after
battling toward the front only to suffer a foot
peg failure on the seventh lap. Hulsey was on
a charge toward Martin, but a rough landing sheered
the left foot peg off his Moose Racing UM Performance
Honda. Hulsey recalled his mid race charge, saying
“about the third to the last lap John (Pitts)
let me by and Kyle (Martin) wasn’t too far
out front. I was able actually to put a little
time on Kyle and I got up within about ten seconds,
they said.” That is about where things went
very bad for the reigning series champion. “Going
up a real rough hill I just sheared my foot peg
off,” he sighed. “I come down over
a jump off the hill and the foot peg sheared off,
so I tried to go ahead and finish that lap as
much as possible, hoping maybe it was the last
lap, but it wasn’t. I finished that last
lap, but John and DJ Shrum both got by me.”
Unfortunately for Hulsey his Powermadd Maxima
Oils machine did not make the final circuit, leaving
him stuck in fourth place for the event.

Shane Gaunt put
in three very good laps at the OMA Nationals
round seven event at Festus, Missouri.
Unfortunately the Morton, Illinois teenager
spent over an hour of lap three with
his Moose Racing Rekluse Honda stuck
in a ravine after missing a corner.
|
Fifth place pro finisher Shane Gaunt seemed
to go MIA for a good part of the race. The Lonestar
Fasst Flexx Honda ended up in a ravine after
the youngster blew a turn in the dust. Gaunt
said “I went flying off a ravine because
it was so dusty I didn’t see the corner
coming. I was riding right behind Pitts and
Hulsey.” Fortunately, he managed to get
the machine back on course after considerable
effort. But the way off road excursion would
add about one hour to the lap three time for
Gaunt. “I got stuck on the side of the
hill, wedged in some trees,” he said in
frustration. “I was pretty far down there.
Finally, I got out and I got a couple good laps
in, but it was over.” His last two laps
were good, but Gaunt would have to settle for
fifth place in the pro class and thirty fifth
overall.
It was a tough day in Festus, Missouri for
round seven of the Parts Unlimited OMA Nationals
Series. But that is all part of the plan. It
is always a tough day at an OMA Nationals event.
This series is designed to challenge pro racers
at a national level event. Bill Gusse has a
reputation for toughness at his events. That
is what makes this series unique. The racers
that run in the OMA Nationals series have come
to expect a challenge, and they always get what
they expect. A race course that will make you
work for the results at the end of the day.
This is offroad racing.
