Todd Krupinski takes the Holeshot
The CRD Spring Creek GP round seven of the OMA Nationals was run in Millville, Minnesota on August 26, 2006. Duane Johnson took his Moose Racing, Maxxis, Honda to the lead after he picked a good line in the whoops and never looked back. “I was real nervous off the start because of how muddy the start was” recalled Johnson. “I went in to that corner and tried to stay on the gas hard and got in to second. I got into the whoops over here and had a better line. It wasn’t near as muddy and I got into first.” Johnson rode smooth and clean to stay ahead of the pack after clearing the motocross track and entering the woods. The combination of back and forth corners in the woods helped him pull out a three minute and twenty second margin of victory after seven laps.

Bryan Baker
The green Moose Racing, Maxxis, Honda of Bryan Baker rolled through the scoring tent at one hour and forty eight minutes to finish his seventh lap of the circuit and capture second place. Baker was in third place after the holeshot and entered the woods in second behind Johnson. A log bottleneck section dropped Baker back behind a couple more riders, “then a couple miles down the trail my bike stalled on me” he said. “It dropped me back to like eighth. Then the rest of the day I tried to play catch up and ended up second.”

Derrick Schrock
Derrick Schrock completed the Moose Racing, Maxxis sweep of the podium with his Yamaha YFZ450. Schrock said, “I had a good start, made a mistake and a lot of people got around me. After that I just kept consistent and got around quite a few people and just kept on charging.” He also had some cheerleading from fellow rider Jason Gudde who cased the huge uphill triple on his second lap and broke a swing arm bolt. “It was an awesome track” said Gudde. “I wish I could have run the whole thing.”

Fourth place went to Kevin Tinsley, who said “Rob (Zimmerman) and I were hanging out there on the line after everybody else decided to leave.” The two plugged away through the pack from last place. Tinsley saw his overheat light come on about the second lap but continued to run his pace to finish just off the podium while Zimmerman was just fourteen seconds behind for fifth.

Duane Johnson
Rob Weis finished in sixth place riding a Honda while Kenneth Staake was aboard a Yamaha to finish in seventh. Staake was the last pro to complete seven laps.

Unfortunately for Todd Krupinski the Honda he was aboard started to sound like a jet airplane and his race was cut short. After getting the holeshot and running strong for a couple laps Krupinski pulled off saying “it just got worse and worse. I didn’t want to be stranded out there with a hole in the bottom of a motor. So, time to quit.”

Track conditions were a concern after receiving five inches of rain on Thursday night but John Martin and his crew did an excellent job of preparing for the event. Bill Gusse and his crew laid out a challenging and interesting course through the woods. The combination of the national motocross track and sections cut through the surrounding woods created another uniquely OMA style event. This is off road racing.
