Round 6 OXC Returns to Westphalia, MO Unexpectedly
Carson Coffman Takes 1st ATV Overall Win of the Season

OXC Youth ATV Racing

PeeWee Holeshot

One week prior to Round 6 of the Ozarks Cross Country ATV series, the OXC crew made a crucial decision to change the venue site from Holts Summit to Westphalia, Mo. The forecast of severe floods in the Holt Summit area posed too much threat to the extremely challenging terrain. Westphalia is a favorite among the OXC riders and was a welcoming decision after several inches of rain flooded the southern portion of Missouri for days prior to the event. One hundred and thirteen riders followed the OXC detour to battle out their spot on the podium.

Eighteen youth class racers returned to take the challenge during the morning event. In the PeeWee Beginner class, Joslyn Mueller placed first followed by Devon Ruark and Owen Roberts in second and third. PeeWee Pro rider Brian Wolfe took his third win for the season followed by Ryan Wolfe and Logan Hazzard in second and third spots respectively.

Mike Mulvania

Riders would have to blindly take on the afternoon track since no practice lap was allowed prior to the main event due to the fear of the track deteriorating and/or falling apart. The multiple lines that formed during the race allowed the track to hold up pretty good, which was a pleasant surprise for the OXC crew.

OXC Shaeffer Holeshot ATV Racing

Pro ATV Holeshot led by Daniel Schaeffer

Dan Schaeffer was first off the line to grab the Fastrax Holeshot award and lead the 10 Pro riders into the seven and one-half mile, five-lap battle on the extremely wet track. Todd Senger moved ahead of Schaeffer half way into lap one and battled back and forth for first with Josh Roberts during the first two laps. In the third lap Josh Roberts was able to move in front only to fall short due to electrical problems with a loose battery cable ultimately falling back to the 7th position. Carson Coffman took over in the third lap, until he clipped a tree allowing Michael Burrows to get around him and be the first to cross the scoring lane at the end of lap three. Burrows broke the end of his brake pedal off in the fourth lap allowing Kyle Martin to pass him for the lead of lap four. Burrows pitted to try and fix the problem only to fall back to 6th place. On lap 5, Martin got hung up in a bottleneck, resulting in Coffman charging past him and taking the win, followed by Josh Eaton and John Pitts. Kyle Martin and Michael Burrows rounded up the top five spots on the podium for the Pro class. This was a race for the win, from the time the 15-second board dropped till the checked flag waved.

OXC Bloodworth ATV Racing

Pro-Am Winner Ronnie Bloodworth

As the Pro Am riders mixed into the overall top ten positions, spectators saw a lead change in the final lap (with the checked flag in site) as leader Justin Rains found himself out of the race with a blown engine. Ronnie Bloodworth took the Pro Am victory, followed by Patrick O”Neill in second. Thomas Fleigle, Kendall Webb and Mike Blanton finished third, fourth and fifth respectively.

Round 7 will try again to take the OXC to Holts Summit, Mo on June 6, 2009. Go to oxcracing.com for complete details.
