Yamaha Quad X ATV Motocross Racing Series

Dustin Nelson Wins Quad X Season Opener
::Continued::

In the second moto, Mitchell was off to another third place start as the racers rounded Talladega. Climbing the hills and navigating through the technical sections, Mitchell kept second place within striking distance as he waited for his opportunity to pass. Making his move on lap six, Mitchell took over the second place position and never looked back as he took the checkers and second place overall for round one of the quadcross series.

Rounding out the podium in the Pro Class was BSY/Yamaha's Tanner Gemperle. In the first moto, Gemperle was off to a great start as he was running in second place early on. With his second lap being his fastest, he was eager to put distance between himself and the rest of the riders as he continued his quick pace. Unfortunately, on lap seven, the #93 was forced to the sidelines as mechanical problems ended his race early.

In the second moto, he was off to a second place start once again and he maintained that position for five laps. Slipping back to third place on lap six, he was able to hang on to the final podium spot and take a third overall for the day. The BSY rider showed impressive speed and consistency throughout both motos as his Walsh/Fox equipped Yamaha handled the difficult obstacles well.

The rugged track was challenging for the riders to navigate and find the fastest race line. "The track was really fast and rough. Mostly one lined around the whole track and the corners had really bad breaking bumps which I really think slowed my corner speed down and gave me some tremendous arm pump half way through both my motos, allowing Robbie Mitchell to pass me," Gemperle stated about how the rough conditions affected him. In regards to his machine, Gemperle said, "my bike was handling really great and my motor was pulling really well up the hills and on my starts as I almost got both holeshots, but Nelson had a better angle than me coming in into the first turn. I would like to thank Flexx Handlebars for always helping me with reducing arm pump as well as my FOX Shocks for making my ride super comfortable, and Braap Shop Yamaha for all their support and a great race quad."

Fasst Co.'s Colt Brinkerhoff of St.George Utah made the journey to Glen Helen to compete as well. Lining up with the Pro's on the first moto, he was able to capture a third place finish to kick off his day. His fourth place finish in the second moto gave him a fourth overall for the day, and with his fast lap times, he will definitely be a front runner in the Pro class in future races.

Typically accustomed to desert and endurance racing, Brinkerhoff was still getting himself and his machine in tune with the motocross track. "With doing more of the National Hare and Hound Desert Series, I didn't have a lot of time on my MX bike recently. I was fighting with bike set up most of the weekend and endurance is a lot different between moto and desert. I am confident in my suspension and myself, I know I'll get all the bugs worked out," Brinkerhoff said about his program. He added, " I was very happy with how I did as this was the first MX race I've done since the Josh Frederick Race in Cedar City, UT last October. I would like to thank Fasst Co./Flexx Handlebars, Maxxis Tires, and Western Designs for all the help getting me to the races."

With the season opener of the 2014 Yamaha Quadcross in the books, the action has only started as we prepare for seven more rounds of exciting racing. The California based series heads to Perris Raceway in Perris, CA on March 30 for round two. We are looking forward to another exciting year of ATV motocross here on the West Coast!
