2009 SCORE BAJA 1000 ATV / UTV Live Race Coverage
November 19-21 - Ensenada, Mexico, 672.85 miles

Ensenada, Mexico (11/19/2009) – The 42nd annual Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 kicks off today with the Contingency staging, and ATVriders.com will be providing live updates throughout the day on Friday from the start early in the morning to the finish near midnight.

If all goes as planned, updates will be posted o this page about every two hours during the race, and/or as important info becomes available.

Also, a complete ATV / UTV Race Report along with hundreds of photos will be released within a few days after the race on ATVriders.com

12:05PM - Thursday, November 19th
Arrived in San Diego, CA & now headed to Mexico
7:00PM - Thursday, November 19th
Arrived in Ensenada, Mexico and went downtown for the Contingency Party & Tech Inspection. Here is a link to the Contingency Day Photo Gallery
7:46PM - Thursday, November 19th
ATVriders.com will be traveling in a chase truck with the 2008 Pro ATV Champions, the 1A team of Wayne Matlock, Harold Goodman, Wes Miller, and Josh Caster and the ATV racers are set to go at 7AM Friday Morning
7:00AM - Friday, November 21st

The race has started. The 2a Yamaha Raptor was the first off the line. Wayne Matlock left the line on the 1a quad. He was the second pro quad starting 30 seconds behind 2a.

8:00AM - Friday, November 21st

The 1a Honda TRX 700XX of Wayne Matlock is leading, Josh Caster took over for Wayne Matlock. 2nd is 5a and 3rd is 4a. Josh Row 50 seconds behind 1a 4th. The 6a Suzuki LTR 450 wrecked but is ok and 3 minutes back and Brandon Brown takes over. News from 40 mile mark at 8am.

8:57AM - Friday, November 21st

The 105a Honda 450R broke at 94 mile. The 103a rider hurt his leg but is still racing

At 80 miles 1a of Josh Caster is leading with a 1:05 min lead. 2nd is the 5a Honda TRX450R, in 3rd the Honda TRX450R 4a, 3 min behind 5a. In 4th is 6a, 9 min behind 4a.

The 104a bike is leading still with Tom Wright. Andy Lagzdins is on the 100a Honda TRX450R now.

10:00AM - Friday, November 21st

The 104a bike piloted by Tom Wright has a 2 min lead over 101a, while the 100a bike is in 3rd.

A 60a rider is down not moving.

11:13AM - Friday, November 21st

In the Utility class, 218a Mike Penland has a 10 min lead over the 202a Arctic Cat at the 80 mile mark.

The 60a rider is being airlifted, but the team is going to continue.

The 1a bike piloted by Josh Caster is leading at the 240 mile mark.

11:38AM - Friday, November 21st

Harlen arrived arrived in San Felipe at 240 mile mark, and is waiting on the quads.

12:46PM - Friday, November 21st

1a's Wayne Matlock swaps with Josh Caster with a 30 min lead over the 4a bike. The 5a Honda TRX450R was back in 3rd, but they were leading in the mountains. The 6a Suzuki LTR450 passed 5a in the pits, which dropped back to 4th.

The 104a bike continues to dominate and is running in 2nd overall for quads and only 17 minutes behind 1a leading the overall.

3:05PM - Friday, November 21st

1a leads at 355 miles with Josh Caster piloting the bike.

The 100a Honda TRX450R is 50 minutes behind the 104a bike. The 101a Honda TRX450R is out due to a transmission issue.

SPT ATV Class update 52a in lst, 59a in 2nd, and 62a in 3rd.

4:45PM - Friday, November 21st

At the 417 mile marker. For team 1a, Harold Goodman handed off to Wayne Matlock with a 50 minute lead over the 4a machine. The 6a Brandon Brown is in 3rd and 2 minutes back with adjusted time.

The 104a bike must have run into issues.

7:00PM - Friday, November 21st

At mile marker 490. Wes Miller is now piloting the 1a bike. He will run for 125 miles before handing off to Wayne Matlock for the final leg of the race to the finish

They are now 3 hours from the finish.

11:53PM - Friday, November 21st
1a Wayne Matlock takes the checkered flag for the win after a nearly flawless day of racing for the 1a team of Wayne Matlock, Harold Goodman, Wes Miller, Josh Caster as they claimed their 2nd straight BAJA 1000 Win & 2009 SCORE Championship.
1:07AM - Saturday, November 22nd
4a Travis Dillon crossed the finish line in 2nd place right ahead of the Overall Trophy Truck winner, Andy & Scott McMillan.
1:30AM - Saturday, November 22nd
