Chris Riley grabbed the Holeshot in the
Quad Pro Main on his Yamaha YFZ450 |
On Sunday, races began shortly after the mandatory
rider’s meeting at 9:30am and progressed quickly
to the Quad Pro main event. As the Quad Pro class
charged for the 1st turn, it was Chris Riley who
grabbed the holeshot, followed closely by Jason
Anderson, Nic Granlund, Dennis Capogni, Frank Batista
and Doug Eichner. Anderson was close on Riley’s
heels, but the narrow track made passing difficult
and Anderson was not able to complete the task.
Granlund, who was biding his time in 3rd, soon made
his move and slipped by Anderson and Riley taking
the lead. “Jason had a tough time trying to
pass Chris, so I just held back a bit until he settled
in, then went for the pass,” said Granlund.
Once Granlund got around Riley, he gained a comfortable
lead over the rest of the pack and never looked
back.
Meanwhile, Dennis Capogni, began applying pressure
to Anderson. Capogni showed that persistence pays
off and slipped by Anderson in the last lap, taking
over 3rd place. Capogni began to close the gap on
2nd place Chris Riley, but there was not enough
time for him to make a move before the checkered
flag was waved. Doug Eichner and Frank Batista put
on quite a show as they began dueling for 5th place
in the first lap, swapping positions several times
before the crossing the finish line. When it was
all said and done, Nic Granlund was first on the
podium, earning himself his 3rd Pro Supermoto Championship,
with Chris Riley in 2nd, and Dennis Capogni claiming
the 3rd spot on the podium. Jason Anderson ended
his day in 4th, with Frank Batista in 5th and Doug
Eichner in a very close 6th.

“I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks!”
joked Doug Eichner about his experience over the
weekend. “We were not prepared at all,”
he said. “We didn’t have a sway bar
or anything on Saturday…we were even running
knobbies. It worked ok, but it sure wasn’t
what we needed to keep up out there.” Eichner
and his crew were fortunate enough to be able
to borrow parts and rear tires from some of the
other racers that were there in order to get a
better set up for the main events. The comradery
between racers made quite a good impression on
Doug. “They are really good people. It was
great to see how they all pull together for each
other. I’m really thankful for all the help
we got,” he said. “It was different,
but fun. I’m looking forward to the next
time!” Doug concluded.
