WORCS Racing - Round 9 - ATV Race Report
::Continued::
“We pitted at the same time, and he just got
out quicker,” said Haagsma. “From there, I just
cruised in second for the rest of the race and
kept the quad together for the championship. I’m
pumped. It’s a lot of work and a lot of time.
To get this championship for myself and my sponsors,
it felt great.”

Racing's David Haagsma finished in the 2nd
spot, which allowed him to clinch the WORCS
Pro ATV Championship by just 4 points |
Haagsma is heading to the East Coast next season
and plans to run the full ATV Motorcross Nationals
season. Winning the WORCS title was an important
milestone for Haagsma before moving on. “I didn’t
want to quit this until I got a championship,”
said Haagsma. “I’ll come to the WORCS races whenever
I can, so I should run about half of the rounds
next year.”

STI’s Mike Sloan made his Pro debut after clinching
the Pro-Am Championship at the last round with
a podium finish. He was pleased with this third-place
finish after having to charge from the back of
the pack. In the end, cramping legs and a flat
tire slowed Sloan’s charge to the front.

Mike Sloan secured the final spot on the
Pro ATV podium in his first race in the
Pro ranks after wrapping up the Pro-Am Championship |
“We were right there with the top guys and that
was nice,” said Sloan. “We just kept charging
and we were right there. I made a few rookie mistakes,
but Mitchell had an issue. On the second to last
lap, I started cramping really bad. Once I got
my legs back, I started charging, so I finished
on the podium.”
DWT’s Robbie Mitchell’s quad suffered a front
wheel bearing failure, which forced him into the
pits to change out the front spindle and bearing,
but he got back out there and finished in the
fourth spot.

Racing's Robbie Mitchell finished out the
year in the top three in the WORCS Pro ATV
Championship points race |
“We got a good start,” said Mitchell. “I rode
well, but I made a mistake on the first lap and
David got me. Then on the second lap, I made another
mistake and Beau got me. I still felt good; like
I was riding really well. Then, when I went to
pit, I had a wheel bearing let go. I had to stop
and it took us awhile to get that changed. I rode
well the last two laps to finish in the top five.”
