Duncan Racing’s Mike Sloan, an Arizona native, said he was used to the heat. He waited to strike until late in the race when other competitors were falling off due to the soaring temperatures.

STI's Mike Sloan scored a 3rd place finish, which moved him to within 2 points of Robbie Mitchell for the 2nd spot in the points championship, which will come down to the final round for the pair

“I knew people would be dropping like flies,” said Sloan, who earned his sixth podium this season. “People started dropping back and that heat is no joke. It feels good to be back up here after the long break. I want to keep my momentum going, train really hard and get a win at the last one.”

LSR’s David Flores’ fourth place finish was his best in WORCS all year. He returned to competition after injuring his knee early in the season.

David Flores WORCS Racing
Goldspeed's David Flores secured a career best 4th place finish in the WORCS Pro Class at Glen Helen

“It feels good to be back,” said Flores. “I got hurt at Mesquite. My foot went into the tire and hurt my knee. I put my head down, started training and worked hard for this race. I went too fast into a turn and Beau T-boned me. It was my fault. I made a mistake. I pushed again from there and took fourth. I just wanted to finish, and I’m pretty happy that I did.”

LMR Racing’s Robbie Mitchell fought mechanical problems all race. He was happy to just finish, and the top five was a bonus.

Robbie Mitchell WORCS Racing
Robbie Mitchell once again suffered mechanical issues, which kept him out of the hunt for a podium finish with a 5th place finish

“I got to the line and realized I had no front brakes, so I had to pit on the first lap,” said Mitchell. “On the second lap, the back end stepped out of a rut, and I cartwheeled it. So I had to pit again. It was a little bit of a rough day. I just tried to make sure I finished after all of that.”
