2016 WORCS UTV Racing Round #9 - Glen Helen September 17, 2016 Devore, California

The Romo family was definitely celebrating over the weekend. Sierra Romo padded her points lead in the Women’s class with her fourth victory of the year. Danielle Weatherly was second, followed by Sierra’s mother, Claudia. The younger Romo got out just ahead of a crash-filled start and led every lap.

“I had no idea about the carnage behind me,” said Romo. “I went a couple of laps before I noticed there was no one behind me. It was one of the roughest courses I’ve raced on. The championship is going to come down to Primm and it’s going to be a close one.”

Rigid’s Danielle Weatherly tangled with another car at the start and flipped her ride. She recovered, drove through the field and finished second. She now sits second in points, nine behind Romo.

“Sierra got the holeshot and I don’t know what happened; I just saw sky and dirt,” said Weatherly. “They got me flipped back over and I got going. I passed every woman in the class and took second. The track was rough, but Glen Helen is my favorite track so it was fun. That was the hardest I’ve ever driven.”

Claudia Romo was so proud of her daughter she didn’t really celebrate her first WORCS podium in just her second start.

I’m just so proud of Sierra taking the win again,” said Claudia Romo. “It’s so exciting. Our race family is so happy today.”

In the 1000 Stock Class, Randy Romo, Sierra’s father, won ahead of Dean Wheeler and Austin Flowers. Recently crowned champion Shelby Anderson crashed and finished 12th. Randy Romo also won the 1000 Class.

The 2016 season finale WORCS Championship race is scheduled for October 21-23 in Primm, NV.
