WORCS ATV Series
Round #1 - SpeedWorld
January 20-22, 2006

WORCS ATV Racing
By: Jesse Cushman

Surprise, AZ - Sean Reddish was all smiles when he heard the final rider count was 425. Phoenix, Arizona was the setting for the WORCS ATV season opener. The track was a classic GP style coarse utilizing all that Speed World has to offer. This WORCS course included the National, Beginner, Vintage and Flat Tracks. The off-road section went through sand washes, some open desert and some technical sections. Even though the area hasn’t seen rain in over 100 days, the water trucks were out in force keeping the dust down and the riders extremely muddy. With plenty of new contingencies and Holeshot money for the pro classes from HiPer Wheels, the 2006 racing season is going to be incredible. The Maxxis Tire rig will be at every round offering support for riders.

One major change in operations this year is mandatory tech inspections. Even though this was the first round, by round two you better have the proper equipment or you won’t be happy with the results. All ATV’s must not exceed a sound level of 101db; have the proper colored numbers and backgrounds as well as a properly operating tethered kill switch.

Temcula Motorsports, Mike Cafro, makes the switch the to Honda TRX450 for 2006 and has his best finish since 2004 with 4th place finish

There was plenty of action over the weekend with Production A having the largest turn out at 29 entries. But all eyes were watching the utility class as a familiar face was on a Bombardier Outlander. It was none other then Josh Frederick out there battling with Dean Waters on these massive quads with Josh Fredrick taking the win . Women’s A was going to be a great one with last years Women’s B/C Champion Brittany Brosious and Tia Chandler moving up. It was the hot pink quad of Brittany’s grabbing the Holeshot with Corry Weller hot on her heels. Corry passed her on the flat track section and checked out from there getting the win.

#5 Josh Frederick takes the season opener win in the Pro Class onboard his new Golden West Honda TRX450R

Sunday’s Pro Main event wasn’t for the faint of heart. Josh Frederick was on hand with a new ride, a Gold West Cycles Honda TRX 450R. Also present was Dirt Wheels test rider, Logan Holladay. It started with the Holeshot going to none other then the man himself, Doug Eichner, but as Doug hit the wash section, he had got a rock stuck in his front tire causing him to flip. As riders came into view, it was Logan Holladay in the lead with Josh Frederick charging hard in second. With quite a gap, in came Mike Cafro and a charging Doug Eichner. Lap after lap Logan and Josh battled and Doug moved in third setting blistering lap times and closing the gap. Logan still in the lead came in for what seemed an early pit and Josh Frederick took over the lead. Eichner and Holladay were now battling for second until Eichner finally made his move in the back section and begn to close the gap on Frederick holding a 30 second lead over Eichner with half the race still to go. By the time the white flag had come out showing one more lap, Eichner had closed the gap to 10 seconds, but Josh Frederick would hold onto the lead for the finally lap and take the opening round win followed by Doug Eichner and Logan Holladay in third.
