WORCS ATV Series
Round #1 - Speed World
January 27-28, 2007

WORCS ATV Racing

#1 Doug Eichner
Surprise, AZ - Just one week after the WORCS motorcycle season kicked off with record cold temperatures along with rain and even snow in Surprise, Arizona at Speed World MX Park, the ATV racers were greeted with much improved conditions with clear skies and seasonal temperatures in the 70’s, which made for an awesome weekend of racing. The nearly perfect racing conditions attracted an impressive 557 race entries as WORCS series continues to grow and attract record crowds, and it has quickly become the premiere west coast ATV series.

The Speed World track was very similar to the layout from the past two years with it consisting of 50/50 split between desert and motocross layout, but to slow down the speeds in the desert a few more switchbacks and turns were added than previous years.

Before any of the racers could hit the race track, they were once again required to undergo tech inspection with some stricter guidelines than 2006. The biggest change was the sound level was reduced to 99 decibels from 101 in 2006, and the sound testing was conducted by the new ATV presenting sponsor, Motoworks, which produces exhaust systems and aluminum ATV accessories. There were numerous riders exceeding the limit, but they were still allowed to race this round with a notice to have the sound level reduced by the second round, or face being disqualified. Also, the top five pro finishers would be tested again immediately after the Pro race to ensure their exhaust remained within two decibels of the sound limit after the race.

Epic Racing is sponsoring #2 Josh Frederick and #114 Jeremy Schell to compete in both the WORCS & ITP Quadcross Series on Sparks Racing powered Honda's with proto-type Bilstein ATV suspension

On another note, an exciting change for the Pro Racers was the addition of a $3,500 Pro Purse with $1,000 going to the winner and the rest split up among the top nine for a full race gate, which attracted the largest Pro turnout since the opening round in 2005 with 25 entries. Among the Pro entries was the four time WORCS Pro ATV Champion, #1 Doug Eichner, returning again with Duncan Racing on the Honda TRX450R, and Epic Racing’s #2 Josh Frederick was back as well to challenge Eichner for the Pro Championship and joining Frederick’s with Epic Racing was 3-time ITP Quadcross Champion #114 Jeremy Schell. For 2007, Schell plans on competing in both the WORCS and ITP Quadcross series as he makes his fulltime return to racing after dealing with injuries in 2006.. Long time pro contender, #3 Brandon Brown arrived with his distinct Fullbore Orange TRX450R, and Temecula Motosports stacked the Pro field with #5 John Shafe, #501 Levi Marana, and #14 Michael Cafro all on Honda 450Rs all looking for their share of the purse and the opportunity to dethrone Doug Eichner.

Temecula Motorsports will once again be a dominate force at the WORCS series with #5 John Shafe, #501 Levi Marana, and #14 Mike Cafro all competing in the Pro Class with several other amateur riders on the team, and they are testing Elka's new front shocks which will debut at the Indy Show in just a few weeks
